when I started by recasting of Evangelion, I ended up keeping my picks for Shinji, Misato and Kaji, but i decided new cast should be totally new so here we have my new casting for Shinji Ikari, pilot of evangelion unit 1. For those unfamiliar with Evangelion, Shinji Ikari is the main protagonist. He's a mentally unstable teenager from an abusive family who starts out incredibly withdrawn, and starts opening up to people over the course of the series before slowly losing his sanity and faith in others as the show progresses. Shinji is normally very sigh but also in both the anime and manga has a berserker mode both in and out of the eva. I decided to go with up and coming actor Mateus Ward, known for his roles in Hostages and Murder in the First. In Murder in the First he played Dustin Maker, a crazed school shooter from an abusive family who also managed to play out a lot of emotional depth, which seemed like a good reason to consider him for Shinji. He is also a very good actor and I'd like to see much more of him.Related content
