That picture and the description reminds me of the 2009 film Knowing.

We'd have to get a badass from a videogame to defeat her, or slow her down. Perhaps Doomguy, with his BFG 9000 and superior speed. Hell, that'd make a great RP or mod for Doom even!

The Nightmare latched onto Luna because of her loneliness and her feeling of being overshadowed.
Whatever drove Celestia to become Solar Flare, I like to picture it as the opposite. She grew arrogant, and instead of lamenting how distant she sometimes was from other ponies, she would revel in it. She would look down on her ponies as ants, brief and ephemeral creatures that should kneel before eternity.

I like your interpretation. Just a total absorption of this power turning them into a monster.
You know what? That just made me think...what you said sounds kind of like a metaphor for power and leadership. Such a level of arrogance and control can turn whoever is on the throne/behind that desk into a metaphorical beast.

Luna wasn't corrupted but possesed.
And as we could see in the comic, Celestia changes to fire form when she is angry. Exactly like Twilight when she was angry. And from what we saw i can tell that this fire would hardly burn something. It was magic surge that looked like a fire not real fire.

Is that what happened? I've never actually read the comics, but that's my fault. Though the way you put it makes sense.
In that case, this is a scenario in which the Sun is gradually increasing in temperature to the whim of who or what had influence over her in addition to rising the temperature within her vicinity as well as her own. Though she's developed an immunity to this intense heat due to enhanced protective magic in her body.

"If you were ever in this sort of situation, what would you do?"
Well, I was about to say "be very dead and crispy" until I read through your scenario. And I must say, Celestia being magically able to control the heat like that and somehow not destroy something that is, by all rights, inside of a friggin' nuclear-powered incinerator, is quite interesting.
Anyways, love the pic. I was envisioning something bigger going on based on the pic than the localized destruction in Ponyville and Canterlot like in your little story.
...Might be because I have a bit of a sick fascination with sudden destruction on a planetary scale...

Thank you! And...yeah, sometimes I have morbid visions of destruction. For crying out loud, I drew New York in ruins when I was younger. XD
The thing with Princess Celestia in this particular situation is that she's incinerating almost everything around her, but not the other ponies for some odd reason. Toward the end, where her eyes shift back to her usual magenta color for an instant, I tried to imply she didn't intend to transform to start with, let alone control her actions. In a sense, she is now a mind trapped in an uncontrollable body. The reason the ponies didn't meet an ultimate death is because the Princess was actually trying her hardest to reduce the concentration of heat around their bodies as she drew near. She couldn't control it all, so an uncomfortable temperature still persisted.

Holy geez, everything is...!
Y'know? The Sun is essentially a titanic nuclear reactor, so the "nuclear warhead" analogy is not terribly off the mark.

Essentially. The thing is the Sun practically assists Princess Celestia in burning everything to the ground, but to her whim. In a sense, it's as if a warhead and a reactor are affecting the world as we know it, except no radiation is really involved and the Princess can control it however she'd like whenever in this state. In this case, rising the temperatures to such an extreme.

So essentially what has happened is that, for all intents and purposes, a nuclear warhead has hit Ponyville in the form of Celestia.
