Description ...or van, or wagon, or whatever you fancy calling it. Certainly this is an opinion, but I’m not sure there ever has been a better-proportioned rail vehicle than the classic European four-wheeled covered goods car. (Which is NOT to say that this picture captures those proportions! But... it comes close, methinks. XD)

For my birthday, I got a standard GWR 12-ton fish van. Pics are up of it.

If I had a salt wagon on my GWR modular layout, I'd paint it grey with 'Munitions' on the sides in red.

Cruz I figure, if it can haul salt, gunpowder is no different. Plus, there are pictures of them with munitions. Made a model of a certain dockside crane from a certain show, a German 0-6-0+oil lamp + cowcatcher, a steam tramper, why not? XD! Seriously though, my Puffa custom has card stock tanks, so remaking TUGS munitions is IMPROSSIBRU!

I'd always use it near a dock next to a large crane as well as a naval tramper named "Kraka-Toa".

I take it by your icon and deviations that by "the tv series" you mean "Thomas the Tank Engine."

Hmm, judging by the peaked roof, this must be a salt wagon!

Ah, definitely has that European look to it - I had one very similar to this (Even in colour!) in N Scale at one point!

Oh wow, that's pretty neat. I have a few cars like this in HO, but I wouldn't mind having a fleet, I have to admit! XD And none of mine have the peaked roof like this one...

Mmm, I need more HO boxcars. But I'm a fan of the modern brown CN cars, for some reason. I could have entire trains of these , specifically the middle one.

Yeah, I do love seeing those cars in real life (though I'm even more fond of the ones with sliding doors ). They have a very... classic look to them.

This, again, saddens me that my city no longer has tracks. In the town I grew up in, I'd see these boxcars, among others, several times a day. I prefer the sliding doors as well.

Say, Does the Valdeen Railway have any of these Vans?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to Sampug394 [2009-06-03 22:51:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't think so (unless maybe they're really old and abandoned on some siding somewhere O.o). Valdeen does have some larger 4-axel (2-truck) boxcars of rather similar design, if I recall correctly. Arched-roofed, though.

Yup. Maybe even some metal ones (I seem to recall some with horizontal ribs, kinda Milwaukee Road-style), but I may be mistaken.

Ah yes, I was thinking of making a GSBW poster bragging about how the SMPG has one of its engines on its top brass train!

Any ideas for it...? Stats regarding the train might come in handy!
