Description Admit it... all you folks who’ve played Majora’s Mask (and plenty of us who haven’t) have always wanted to be a Deku Scrub... and with this mask, you finally can!

It works wonderfully at sporting events and party-crashing... and has been field-tested with fantastic success at both! Looking for a girlfriend (or boyfriend)? You'll have members of the opposite sex lining up for you wearing this!

I have decided to share the secret of this amazing mask with the world. Now, the fantastic powers of the Deku Scrub can be yours simply by following these easy steps... you won't regret it!

1.)Take a brown paper grocery bag, ideally sans logos. Make sure your head will fit inside it. You’ll be wearing it! Find also a small black Styrofoam tray, like the ones that vegetables are sold in at grocery stores. Its longest dimension should be no wider than the width of the paper bag. Finally, procure some construction paper, yellow cellophane wrap, a cardboard paper towel tube, and some dark-colored yarn (preferably fuzzy). Keep scissors and some glue (Elmers, hot, or whatever you have) handy.

2.) Now, to modify the bag. Since the bag will likely be too tall when upside down over your head and resting on your shoulders, you will need to cut several inches from the bag’s “top” (where the handles attach) to make the whole bag shorter. The actual amount of removed material will vary depending on the size of you and your bag. Next, with the bag on your head, find the level of your eyeballs and roughly mark this point on the bag’s exterior. Take the Styrofoam tray and lightly trace around it onto the front of the bag such that your eyeballs are just covered by the tray’s top. Then, cut a SLIGHTLY-SMALLER rectangle out of the front of the bag, using your traced outline as a rough guide only. The tray should be able to cover this hole!

3.) This is the fun part. Take the Styrofoam tray and cut two eyeholes into it. Will your mask be angry? Sad? Surprised? The choice is yours! You must also cut a semi-circular notch into the tray below and between the eyes— it is here that the paper towel tube (or nose!) will fit. Finally, take the yellow cellophane and glue about ten layers of it behind each eye hole. THIS IS THE COOLEST EFFECT EVER. People looking at your mask will see only blank, shiny yellow eyes... but you can still see out. Guaranteed.

4.) This part is only a wee bit tricky. Take the paper towel tube and cut a semi-circular notch into one end of it... when you are wearing the mask, this notch will make room for the bridge of your nose (you’ll see as the mask comes together). Now, fit the tube to the tray, with its notch pointing up towards the eyes of the tray, such that the notch in the tube intercepts with the notch in the tray... if the tube and tray fit together without creating an air gap between them from the outside, you’ve done this part right. Decide how long you want your nose to be and cut the tube accordingly. Glue it to the tray in the position described above.

5.) Another fun part. Take a sheet of construction paper, preferably of an earthen or foliage shade, and fold it in half the tall way. Cut a long parabolic curve into the long, non-crease edge of the folded piece of paper. Next, cut a number of triangular notches into the curve. Unfold the paper and presto... you have a Deku leaf! You will probably want to make at least five more of these leaves for the finished mask in whatever colors strike your fancy... I’m fond of green and orange myself.

6.) Here’s where you put the whole thing together. After making sure that the Styrofoam tray assembly does indeed cover your face properly while the bag is over your head, glue it to the front of the bag, covering the hole you cut previously. Next, take your pile of paper leaves. You will want to glue your leaves together in a “layered” fashion... to do this, take three leaves and glue them together at their tips so they form an even “Y”-shaped pattern. Make two of these layers. (You may want to experiment with layer shape, “thickness,” and amount, but I find that two layers of three leaves works excellently.) When you are happy with your layers, glue them to each other at their centers, making sure that the leaves of each layer are “staggered” to each other for maximum leaf fluffiness and movement. Take a scrap piece of paper bag and roll it into a “stem.” Glue this stem to the top of your bag. Glue the leaf bunch to the stem.

7.) Finally, the finishing touches. Take a few strips of black construction paper and wrap them around the sides and back of the bag, joining them to the sides of the Styrofoam tray at the front. (Why? Because your mask is wearing a mask! ...Trust me. XD) Next, take that fluffy yarn and glue as much of it as you can to the top of the bag so that it falls down in back and to the sides. (Do Deku Scrubs have hair in canon? I don’t know, but it looks creepy and awesome here. ) Last of all, you’ll likely want to plug the paper tube of your hose hole. Take a bit of scrap Styrofoam, cut it into a rough circle, poke it full of holes, and jam it deep into that nose tube. You are now ready to become a Deku Scrub.

8.) Don your mask and enjoy your newfound powers. Go out and harass people! (And post photos of yourself doing it. )

Good luck with your adventures!

Thanks much. I have done a technical drawing or two for -possible- publication before... I dunno, it could work out if it's for projects like this one that aren't too precise!
