Personality: Cheery and ever curious of the vast world around him, Heinrich aspires to discover the undiscovered and experience things yet to be experienced and most importantly, learn everything that can be learned. Unfortunately, it is said that ‘curiosity killed the cat’, and rightly so – since Heinrich has been highly accident prone for as long as he could remember.

Heinrich would often visit the markets for alchemical ingredients. At the markets, Heinrich can spend the day ogling at exotic imports or new inventions, returning with a lighter purse and additional weight.

Prior to becoming a Gijinka, Heinrich recalls that he was not entomophobic. Having spent many hours of his youth playing with common bug Pokemon in the gardens of his estate, he finds it illogical that he fears them at as an adult. Illogical as it may be, ever since he acquired powers from his Umbreon, he has found bugs utterly unbearable. Of course, he would try to hide his fear and maintain his composure, often with a lack of success. Generally, in the presence of a bug, Heinrich would either simply freeze up, or he would try and maintain distance.

History: Born as the fourth and last son into a moderately wealthy aristocratic family, he knew he had no foundation from the family to sprout from. The estates, monies and lands were to be inherited to the successor of the family name; the businesses and capital assets were to be given to the second; and the house’s twenty-odd beasts of burden (the Reiter’s own eight Rapidashes and various other mounts) are promised to the third son.

Having no promised future from the household, Heinrich realises that he could excel academically and build himself his own life. He was already well off; and being a dependant in the family means that he did not need to worry about food, clothes, shelter, security and most importantly – not fighting for inheritance. Being in the city of Creation, Heinrich saw it most fitting to become an Alchemist and so he began his studies on alchemical philosophies.

Heinrich was once never inquisitive of the unknown. Studying was viewed as a labour and a necessity to gain a foothold in society. The turning point in his life was when he read a passage from a translated copy of a foreign philosophical alchemic text that stated ‘Ignorance is the cause of conflicts. If effort is put into understanding and compromising with one another, then disputes, conflicts and ultimately, war, can be eliminated.’ Born in an era where the history texts strongly convey of the atrocities and horrors of war, and raised in a household with brothers who compete for favour from their father, Heinrich was deeply moved by these words and so he took them to heart. Following that day, Heinrich developed an insatiable thirst for knowledge in hopes that one day he would not be truly ignorant of anything.

Sadly, more often than not Heinrich finds himself as the centre of conflict when he tries to correct another’s view or speaks out of line.

At 11 years of age, Heinrich obtained a Pokemon egg belonging to one of the household servants. Apparently, the egg contained the illegitimate offspring of a maid’s Eevee and a feral Pikachu. The maid had intentions of disposing the embarrassment; however, Heinrich found it quite pitiful that its life is not determined by its own hands and so he took it upon himself to raise the young with no objections from his family since they simply didn’t care.

Eevee and Heinrich were inseparable; both often spending hours in the dimly lit studies prying on knowledge in their free time. Though Eevee could not read, it displayed its intelligence through understanding the books that Heinrich read out loud to it. Inevitably, it evolved into an Umbreon. Perhaps the change was due to the extensive amount of time Eevee spent out of sunlight.

At the age of 15, Heinrich was approached by an Alchemical Researcher who acknowledged his alchemical understandings. He was made an apprentice and assisted in the search for ‘Panacea’, the cure of all ailments and diseases. On one particular experiment, the Researcher’s ingredients were sabotaged by jealous rivals, resulting in his death and the laboratory set ablaze.

Though both Heinrich and his Umbreon escaped the inferno, Heinrich collapsed from inhaling too much of the toxic fumes released from various alchemical ingredients burnt in the fire. In efforts to save his master’s life, Umbreon surrendered his physical form and fused with Heinrich.

The following morning, Heinrich awoke feeling strangely different, yet awfully familiar. His recollection of the events of the night before pierced together the explanation to his current form. Though he was saddened by the loss of his friend, he knew that Umbreon was not gone and was forever inside him.

Eventually, Heinrich summed up the courage to ask his father for a loan to start his own Apothecarium. After much persuasion and despite his sibling’s protest, his father agreed. Heinrich moved out to begin his own life of research and medicine lore.

Trivia:
- He really appreciates his apparent immortality (He does not seem to be aging after merging with Umbreon). Suddenly, he has all the time in the world to use in seeking knowledge.

- He wears a wide-brimmed ‘Flat Cap’ to cover his Umbreon ears - he believes they look embarrassing as they are sensitive to his emotions. Whenever he is surprised, his hat pops off as his ears perks up.

- He is strangely biased towards foreign goods and foreigners, perhaps this is because he has never travelled and that the outside world seems enigmatic to him.
