Great scene!
I don't know if it was intentional, but I miss a defined spot, to know where to look at.
But I liked it!! =]

Hmmm! I see!
Naturally we always try to search warm places instead of cold places ... Or shiny places than dark ones ... I think that is human instinct.
However, when it comes to painting, this fact should be put away and focus on a point when the contrast is higher and more defined lines =]
Of course, I think that this depends on the artist's style and process of painting, there is no "final rule" ;]
Great job!!

Hahaha, contrasted lines huh⦠that's definitely what's been missing!
I end up treating this like a painting where I only use one brush.
I personally like the result, but it's true that I could get more interesting results by working with various tools

danketsujin In reply to audreve [2014-02-01 19:47:03 +0000 UTC]
Yep! You can decide the focal point by giving this point more contrast (black/white; complementary colors) and harder edges =] you can make use of Smart Sharpen filter on Photoshop too
I see! Most of the time I also use only one brush, because I don't know how to use the other ones properly hahaaha! Gotta make more experiments.
Speaking of brushes, here a link for hundreds of cool brushes used by professionals, hope you like it!
www.pandemoniumart.net/brushesβ¦
Every brush has it's purpose. Today in my digital painting class, my teacher said one very interest thing "Different brush, different stroke", this means that, when you change brushes, you should not make the same movement with your hand that you were doing with the previous one.
Hope it helps!

Yes! I am! At ICS.art (www.ics.art.br/web/pintura-dig⦠Digital Painting for Concept Art. Awesome course! =] I'm loving it!
You are welcome!
Oh! I see! Yeah! Most of the time, one brush can solve loads of problemas, but sometimes you want a different kind of effect, texture ou brush stroke, so these brushes come in very handy =]

That's so sweeeeeeet!! Are you going to post some of your class exercises? I'd love to see
(correct me if I'm wrong, but concept is mostly about scenery, not charactersβ¦.?)

I really recommend the course! =]
About the class exercises hahaha! They were like 30 min. paintings and most of them are unfinished XD ... It's hard to paint something in only 30 min. @_X"
(Not only scenery - known as "Matte Painting" - but also characters, vehicles, creatures, robots ... Everything that you can describe on words and need to transform an idea into a painting)

I doubt I can take any more courses. I'm on my way out of Brazil and I have no money XP
How long is the course?
What do you guys base yourselves on? Photos? Other concepts?
30 minutes should be cool to get the juices flowing
Matte painting? What does that even mean? XP
I want to see what you're doing! You must be improving at the speed of light!! I shall not lose ;D

Oh! Now that you mentioned, I recall it! =] Cool! You are going to Malaysia, right? Study? I know thatΒ Feng Zhu School of Design is locatedΒ in Singapore, must be awesome! I wish I could go there!
The course is 8 months, mine is ending by middle of March/2014
Most of the time is a topic, for example, spooky or generosity or "the tower" and so on hahahaha!Β
Yeah! 30 min is kinda tough XD hahahaha!
I dunno the meaning hahahaa! Maybe because it was first painted on glasses then you had to paint the glass what you were seeing through it with paint the the glass wasn't transparent anymore, it turned matte ... hahaahaha! XD Crazy theories!
Well, I've been studying anatomy and almost nothing of colored painting hahahaha! I wish I was improving in this speed hahaahah! I would be really nice!
I see that you are improving very fast! Congratulations! =]
I shall not lose too! ;]

You know what, your English is great! Hope that doesn't offend you but I really wasn't expecting you to write like a native
I'm going to Malaysia to work/live. Although I'll be close to Feng Zhu I won't go there XP
How about you post some 30-minute drawings on Facebook? I'd love to get a whiff at those things ('the tower"? what tower??)
I wish I improved in anatomy, but I say that w/o doing any practice because it's never the "right moment" ughhhhhh
Game ON!

Ah! Thank you! =] Hahahaha! Not a problem! In fact, I'm glad to hear this hahaha! Your english is great too! ;]
It's a good thing that I can talk to you in english and practice it! I need to thank you for this =]
Wow! That's great! Work/live is a huge experience that you will face and we can't measure how much we can learn from this. Aaawww! You gotta make at least a visit to the school XD
Wish you the best! ;]
Okay hahaha! I will post some of the 30 min. drawings, but do not expect great things XD ... There are some that you look at and think "What the hell is this thing?" hahahahah!!Β
Hahaha! I see! Maybe you could sketch some poses by observing people in the streets or draw from Loomis books =] ... Oh! I posted some studies on the group "Clube do Desenho" along with some links that helped me a lot while studying! Hope you can check it out =]
Yeah! ;] Game Start!!

Great! =]
Okay XD hahahaha!Β
I will send you via facebook some of the exercises that we did in 25~30 min hahahaa! I was looking through them and could not stop laughing and saying "What the hell" hahaha!! XD
Hope the paintings help you get through you artist block =]
I've been through one yesterday all day, because I was trying a different technique to paint (without lines, go directly on silhouette and start rendering) ... Then I sucked a lot! Hahahaha! I discovered that this technique does not fit me and takes waaaay more time than the current process that I do (sketch, lineart, coloring), at least for me "silhouette -> rendering" didn't fit at all!Β
However, once you do the lineart them coloring ... It's pretty much difficult to adjust things, since you have to erase line art, correct it, then erase coloring and correct it too ... Kinda pain on my knee ... So, I'm trying another process (clean sketch, coloring over sketch). Yep, no lineart just few natural lines here and there, pretty much easier to correct it, if needed =] ...
Why did I told you all this? I dunno hahahaha! But I have two videos from two artists that I respect and look up to. One is Sycra Yasin and the other ir Marc Brunet. You can google it to find out more about them, but what I can say is that their videos are awesome, they teach and give advices. Being a coincidence or not, they both made a video talking about artist block, hope you can watch them.

From Marc: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fPRsIβ¦

Nice! You should use the hard round brush instead of the soft one. It gives you more control of details. You can always select an area and blur it later ^_^
