Watercolor & White Acrylic

Another watercolor of a mermaid, something I drew a while back and decided it was time to finish it.  It belongs to part of a story I began working on, about a young fisher boy that becomes friends with a mermaid.  He becomes the royal cartographer and travels on his little sailboat with the mermaid as a guide in order for him to create the maps needed by the king.  As he grows older their friendship becomes strong and the mermaid helps protect him from unexpected dangers while the boy helps her to see what it is like to live on the land with humans.

The raging storm is depicted superb, reminding me a bit of van Gogh clouds. The rock, where the mermaid pulls up her friend is integrated phantastically in the high waves. And the lighting is just perfect.

The colors are too light and washed out.   The SUBJECT is wonderful, the poses superb, the integration of the water and the rockscape under and around the figures utterly incredible, the expression gives a tremendous sense of a stopped moment--and this, colors notwithstanding, is an instant favorite.

I love the way you graduated from blue to green in the wave. Is this all watercolor? If so it's an interesting technique, because parts of it look kind of like colored pencil.

Thank you, and yes, it is all watercolor except for a touch up with white acrylic paint to some of the waves.
