Ah yes, nothing wrong with just starting with lines, starting with just color can be bewildering at times! Anywho, as far as constructive criticism goes... First the good! The first thing that I notice the contrast between the rendered head and the blurry body. This is pretty good, because it conveys motion and draws attention to the main focus of the picture. However, a little bit more detail on the water might not be amiss either. Next, you're doing a good job of showing the forms through light+shadow overall, keep looking into that subject.
Now, if there was anything I would suggest you work on, it would probably be adding a sense of scale. It's kinda difficult to tell if this is a huge serpent, or just a tiny little snake playing in the water. You could probably remedy this by detailing the water a little bit to show waves, or by adding something nearby that the audience knows the size of, like an unfortunate ship or an indomitable warrior here to slay/befriend the beast. And also on a side note, I'd recommend looking at references of snake heads for things like the placement of the teeth, scales, etc.
Hope this was informative! Nobody ever gave me any constructive criticism when I asked for it, so I've been trying to dispense advice whenever anyone asks for
