I've seen that book, actually-- "The Art of 'How To Train Your Dragon'". Oh, that cover was so /gorgeous/...
I /love/ that image of Hiccup without a shirt-- superb detail, perfect angle and proportions~ And not bad lookin', either. XD
The human shoulder and back are things that still confuse me, so I am immensely impressed by this. I am also greatly impressed by his hair-- the lines flow together so perfectly!
Let me just stare at it for a minute and study how you did that... ... no, no, don't mind me... I'll just camp out here a while...
Also, the image of Merida on the same page turned out pretty awesome too~ beautiful anatomy, and her pose is so EPIC. I love the hip and the folded arms of Attitude. XB
Heh, I like how she has a side braid there too~
I like the mix of epicness and dorkiness in Hiccup on the second page there. XDD He /could/ look cool, what with the braid and the hint of beard scruff... but then that dorky grin happened.
\ <-- like that.
Then the dorky face happened again later on the same page. <-- but more like that this time.
His hair turned out nice in that one, too~ good line quality there~

Reference studies. 83 I examined the way the animators and Nico drew him out and copied the styles they used and the techniques.
Master copying is the best way to learn from the best.

I'd recommend looking at the concept art for 'im. It's a great help.
