We were discussing this last night on /co/Lyra came from a rich family in canterlot, where her mother was always comparing her to her talented and successful sister, pressuring Lyra to be more like her.
So she escaped ponyville, where she met her now wife, Bon Bon.
Years later, Lyrica met her daughter again, while she was in a fashion show (Green isn't your color)

I still think of Octavia as more like Pinkie Pie's sister, she looks a lot like her when she was young. If Pinkie could get out of being sad and poor at the rock farm then ΓΉoctavia could have gotten successful. Just my opinion.
