i'm still finding details in this picture i missed moments ago (duh...it's a fractal...it does that sort of thing to your brain intentionally)... finally found a copy of mandelbulb3d... for the moment it's still skirting the edge of being completely and absolutely incomprehensible...almost. i haven't had a lot of time to see what it can do yet, i just know there are a lot of places and menus to input numbers and formulas and that it will fuss at you if you put in something stupid (or not advisible) that makes no sense to the program... when i figure this thing out i'll see if anything i produce is worth posting...

Thanks Scott!! It is a little intimidating to use at first - Luckily some other Deviants have started to write some good tutorials to get you started (eg. See HalTenny, Fiery-Fire). Also, the program comes with some parameter file examples to check out. Lastly, and I find this really useful for myself, many people post their parameters along with their pieces - you can copy them to the Windows clipboard and paste into M3d to learn how they made it. Or if you're brave and a bit of mad scientist you can just plug in numbers and see if your computer starts smokin' ... Hee hee! Really though, if you get stuck on anything, you can always note me and I'll try to help!

thanks...as soon as things are less insane i'll have more time to see what i can do...but i do expect that your assistance will be needed (and greatly appreciated) in the future.

Excellent! Genius! What formulae did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AureliusCat In reply to ianjam [2011-02-07 23:14:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it - The formulae I used were - ABox (Scale=-1.5, MinR=0, Fold=0.5), then _Rotate (x=7, y=-9, z=6)

Thanks for this information.
Scale=-1.5, Fold=0.5 combination works well!
Finding lots of interesting structure with my first brief look.

"Conventional wisdom" suggests Scale = to -1.1 thru -1.3 with Fold = to 1.001 thru 1.005.

Cool! Glad to be of some help. I think I recall reading something about the ranges you mention, but I've still had a lot of interesting results with values outside those ranges too ...

Cheers - mind if I try it, tweak it, see what drops out? It'll be different to yours, no worries there.
