I just found a picture I liked and used it as reference for this one... I don't know how many hours it took me. It was a lot of fur. Maybe 15-20 hours?Photoshop. My hands are tired.

Wow.. This is by far my favorite. I'm having a hard time not faving everything in your gallery. Excellent use of lines for texture. I rarely have the patience to do that in my digital art.

Most of the time staring like that IS a form of challenge, so I don't imagine that you're very far off in your estimate! The more submissive a wolf or dog is, the more they will try to avoid looking directly at you. On the other hand, it has a lot to do with confidence also, so Alphas very rarely have to stare anyone else down, they are just that confident.

So in other words, that sort of stare can imply something like: "I own you." or "I'm the Alpha of this pack, so you're under my command."

This one to me seemed more challenging. Like, "let's see which position you and I are each at in the pack," but yes, direct stares are very challenging. This is true not just in wolf packs, but also with primates, and even people to some degree. ^_^

Yep. Animals that travel in packs display this kind of behavior. Even lions.

Aww, thank you! Yeah, it was strange to me when I first started working on wolves when I realized that their fur consisted of more tan and brown than actual gray or black, which are just at the tips of the fur. I always think of wolves as being gray, but... I guess they're more brown. Thanks for the comment!

The funny thing is, the nose and muzzle didn't look complete until I added the little bits of snow. I guess they kind of complete the picture. Thanks for the comments!
