I know, it's actually really sad.  I wish it were publicly available, and CostumeCon too, it would do so much towards demystifying these contests and making people realize they're relatable and enterable and just plain fun and not some unattainable pinnacle.

If you'd like to see some of either Chicon (WorldCon 2012) or LoneStarCon (WorldCon 2013) I can probably arrange to have them at Anime St. Louis.  We could throw a viewing party!

I always wanted to attend costume con but felt like the people that compete there must just be ridiculously good. XD

I think you could hold your own   You can look at the Costume Con archives to see pictures of the costumes, there's a large variety from anime to scifi to original design.  Performance can take a bit to get used to, because it's got a theatrical element but it's also a presentation of costumes, not just a show, but it's not really hard to grasp.

You'll have DetCon this year, which is what happens in North America when WorldCon is not on the continent.  That should be a good competition.  Also Costume Con will be in Madison in 2016.
