Description
I'm working on various monster species for my fantasy story and this is one of my favorites. Some refining and in depth description is needed but so far I'm pretty satisfied.
These creatures are to inhabit many different areas, mostly deep forests and swamps but also a few beaches or the mountain regions. As far as variation goes they can range from 1,50 to 4m or from 20 to 60cm (as dwarf species) and might carry region specific plants, fungi, or minerals on their back. Most are carnivorous or omnivorous but only represent a serious threat to humanoids if pestered in their own territory.
Some breeds are living in a symbiotic relationship with a few nature bound folks as they can easily grow edible plants and fruit to feed the people, whereas in exchange they are kept safe from possible trophy hunters and are offered a huge untouched habitat and peaceful life among each other.
It is rare that one of these bounds with a human being but a few exceptions that have grown up with their partner and future best friend happen once every now and then.
I'm keeping this guy as a character of mine, he usually grows edible and a few mildly or moderate mushrooms. He's from the alpine woods and has a more chill/relaxed attitude as long as he isn't disturbed when busy or asleep, a few people already lost their head over this.
His kind is able to produce a variety of toxins and is therefore often captured by potion brewers or alchemists.
He survived long enough to have grown up to 2 meters but for travelling and better accessibility his buddy An'Khari is able to cast downsizing spells on him as they may take on a journey together from time to time.
