Description This painting is 5 feet by 5 feet. The pictureturned out okay once I tweaked the colours, but part of the right side got cropped.
That's actual gold leaf, not that you can tell.
Full view ISN'T recommended if you have a slow computer, because it's 1200 pixels wide.

This was my independant project for my art class. It's an acrylic and oil painting about roleplaying. The bubbles contain scenes of roleplaying events that I've loved the most, be they LARP, Tabletop, or online. Hopefully I'll be able to get some details up, once I get *my* film developped.

Edit: Daily Deviation? WOW. Just....wow. And thank you SO MUCH to ^twosilverstars. I'm absolutely blown off my feet....

2nd Edit: Uploaded a larger, better quality version. Still no details.

That's kinda cool and weird, heh. This lS the WORST photograph, though! l'm glad someone's seen it in person. l hope she's getting goop care in CA, the painting looked so nice hanging there that l gave it to Karen.

it's being very well looked after, haha. it does looks nice where she has it! it's such a gorgeous painting. i love how it catches your eye as soon as you walk in the studio and it looks great from that far away, and then as you get closer the bubbles become paintings of their own.
it was soooo odd just browsing around on dA and seeing this randomly! i was like HAY!!! <

this is the best image in your gallery, I'd love to see a one-man exhibition of images that are this stylistic, this disjointed, this much of an expression of colour and form and fluid movement.

I love the softy rondy bubbles and the hardy sharpy shapes
I love the masklike face pouting

One improvement? It might have been nice to have had some gold bubbles, you know?, those blown bubbles that have sucumbed to the golden realm and are set in the metal of the background with their reflections intact.

5ft x 5ft you say - yes, a one-man exhibition of images like these (with various media) would be truly stunning.

To do an entire exhibit in this theme..heh. I hadn't thought of it, but now that I do I can imagine it being very satisfying. This was one of the most fun things I've ever had to paint (other than inhaling very strong and noxious gold laquer fumes), and to experiment with many colours and themes and faces would be REALLY fun. But to keep them all in a similar scale..that would be a huge problem. My art teacher is keeping this painting in her class because I have no room for it, and if I made several of them, I don't know what I'd do!
It might be something to think of for the future when I've got my own place.... 'Storyteller revisited' series...yeeees.

As for making gold bubbles...I had thought of doing all the bubbles in gold, but I think they wouldn't have stood out enough that way. Even if it were a few gold bubbles, they would blend in with the gold on the background a lot, and I didn't want that. Though...there were a few choices of shades of gold, and now that I think of it, it might have looked good to use a very dark gold for the background stylized thingies, and then the brightest gold for the story bubbles...

I'm really glad you commented on this! You've made me think a lot about some interesting things, and I love getting a comment that really stands out. It's good to put that much effort into comments.

Thank you so much!

Damn, you sure don't see DDs this unique every day.
The detail just blows me away, even the different reds you've laid in the background instead of a flat colour. If anyone ever calls you lazy, hit them.

Lol...I'll be sure to! With a wooden paddle..or something justb as tough.
*grins*
I'm glad you like it, though! At first, I was trying to make the background flat, but I ended up having more fun with this...plus it helps disguise the fact that there's a giant support beam behind the canvas, right through the middle.
Bleah.

lovely, playful composition, creative use of materials, and fantastic detail. I'm impressed. my one dislike is that the transition from face to gold leaf is too abrupt for my taste, leaving the human details seeming somewhat out of place, but I love the bubbles and the play with pattern and composition. the little bubble images rock my socks

Heh...thanks! Just wish I could get some decent details of the story bubbles.
I do agree with you about how the face is...I think if I were to change anything about the painting, I'd probably bring some gold shapes into the edge of her face, and maybe blur her a little...not too sure.
But it's something to keep in mind for the next painting!

Breathtaking! Bubbles can be a hassle as it is, but you got it down with the added challenge of the scenes. I wish I could see it in real life, the gold leaf and clarity of the bubble scene would probably just magnify it's beauty, which is impressive already. It's a nice contrast between the style of the subject and the pattern. In case you hadn't heard it enough
