Well, as I promised in my latest photo essay, here is the first of the few standalone photos I intended to get posted from my recent trip to Bandon. As I have obtained a photo and explanation for
Face Rock Creamery
, I wanted to share a picture I caught of another beloved business of mine from the city -- Misty Meadows Jam. I have come to enjoy their jams and other products from Made In Oregon before, and I felt like visiting the shop directly this time around. It's a cool place with a variety of artisan jams, jellies, sauces and other goods made with freshly-grown berries sourced right from the property's farm. It was a cute little shop to visit and I wouldn't mind going back on a possible trip.
For anyone who would like to know more, Misty Meadows Jam and Jellies is a family owned and operated enterprise founded back in 1970. The Keller family began making jam in 1971, using their own family-developed recipes. As their products became known and word spread out, their company grew in size. They acquired a new, bigger year-round store in 1999 and a larger kitchen in 2006. The new store stands beside the old roadside stand that had used to be the center for business, located just south of Bandon along Highway 101. Even with the expansions, the Kellers have been maintaining their traditional open-kettle method of processing.
All of their products are made from original recipes in small batches of no more than 18 jars per batch. Their products contain no corn syrup, no artificial flavors or colors, no preservatives or other fillers. Everything is cooked, jarred, pasteurized and labeled by hand ensure a great homemade taste that customers have come to expect.
Most of their products are made with Oregon-grown fruits, both wild and domestic. Blackberries are arguably the state's most popular wild fruits, though huckleberries are also plentiful nearby. Huckleberries are darker, smaller and stronger-flavored relatives of blueberries. Other berries they make use of include blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, salalberries, loganberries, boysenberries, both red and yellow raspberries, and marionberries. They also make citrus marmalades, pomegranate jelly and strawberry rhubarb jam, syrups, fruit butters and pepper jellies. All contain 100% pure cane sugar. Other products include stuffed olives, pickled garlics, barbecue sauces, meat rubs and salsas, all made with other Keller family recipes.
Misty Meadows's products make for great holiday gifts, birthday gifts, or make any special occasion better. They'll even print custom messages on their labels to commemorate special occasions. They ship to all parts of the United States. If you happen to stop by the shop, all food and gift items available can be incorporated into a gift basket of your own design.
