I've loved this piece from you since day 1... this week America Chavez is the subject of the weekly art jam on and I used your illustration as the character reference. I'd love to add your pic to the jam as well, as some pretty high standards for the others to meet...
2014 R3 Art Challenge 14: Miss America ChavezOne of my favorite newish Marvel characters, Miss America Chavez is currently a member of the Young Avengers in the Marvel Now! reboot. The new Captain Marvel got all of the mainstream media attention as a young Muslim woman character, but America Chavez seems to have flown under the radar, primarily due to lack of overt marketing. But here we have essentially a tall, fit, super-powered latina girl wearing the stars and stripes and taking an alpha role. Awesome in every way.

Hmm... I remember I used some references for toes and leg muscles, but face and hair, nope, I did it from scratch ^__^

wow awesome. Her face to me reads as the actress/ singer Kathryn MacPhee. Intentional or not, it really grounds the pic.
That said, it's all about the pose here: the hand up to the hair, the foot down in that stance, curled. It's the kind of expressive, natural posture I strive to get but rarely do...
