“Sakura-chan, I’m sorry,” She turned on her heel and saw Naruto. He was staring at the ground.

“How was the mission? Is he back?” There was no reply but she noticed the sudden stiffness in his posture. “Look at me, Naruto. Look at me. Please,” Upon raising his head up, she noticed the tears that were threatening to fall.

“I’m really sorry, Sakura-chan. We… couldn’t get him back. None of us were strong enough. I wasn’t strong enough. I couldn’t stop him… I…” Naruto struggled to stop the tears from rolling down his cheek. Sakura could only stare at him disbelievingly, shaking her head. She fell to her knees and her tears flowed freely.

“Sasuke-kun…” Naruto kneeled beside her and pulled her into his embrace, resting his chin on her head.

“It’s all my fault. Blame me. I was the one who had to face him in the end… I was the one who had the power to bring him back… My fault…” He mumbled into her pink hair, wet from his tears which he could not hold back after seeing her break down.

“Naruto… It’s not your fault… I can’t blame you… I could have stopped him from leaving the village. I was powerless against his will to get power…” Sakura moved further into the arms that were holding her, never wanting him to let go. “Next time… The next time, we’ll get him back, Naruto… That’s because… That’s because the next time, we’ll go together.”
