Leon's weapon is a plain-looking sword, but don't let appearances fool you. He's been training with and using this sword since he first recieved it as a boy and it could be considered an extension of his own body. While years later, he could always find a new sword, he's been very careful with this one and would rather see it used until the end of its days. After all, if it can still cut, it can still be used.

Battle Skills (For RP Purposes?):
-> When Leon met his teacher who was an outlaw, he struggled learning the bow and instead placed more focus on his sword skills he gained at a young age. With no sword users to teach him after his parents were gone, he developed his own fighting style that utilized the techniques his mentor and parents had taught him. The fighting style takes advantage of his strength and speed, hitting hard and fast, while staying light on his toes. It isn't meant for long-lasting battles like normal sword fighting may be, so he has to finish the battle quickly, placing most of his energy in the first few hits then retreating to recover and swooping in again to continue.
-> Has zero ability in magic and probably never will. He can't even bring out a spark of fire or a crackle of energy. His friend told him not to worry about it, but he hates it when people bring it up...

Unique Ability:
Lockpick (Locktouch) - User can open doors and chests without requiring keys
Leon's mentor was a skilled Outlaw who prided himself in his lockpicking skills. There wasn't a lock he couldn't pick. Leon learned basic lockpicking skills from him, then honed his skills through experience and observing his mentor in action. Now his skills in lockpicking are on par with his mentor, much to his mentor's chagrin (and perhaps a little bit pride.)

.:🍂:. Personality .:🍂:.

+ Independent:
Leon is a very independent person, believing that the only person you can really rely on is yourself. Thus, he has no regrets and his actions are his and his alone. Both a positive and negative trait, he's quick to improve himself when he (or others) find fault, but on the other hand, he can be hindered by not considering others and hard on himself when making mistakes.
+ Observant:
Leon's eyes are sharp and he often catches things others may have missed, if not unconsciously. This comes in handy on a job when timing and surroundings can be the key to success, or failure. He's the kind to one day comment on a small detail that no one picked up on, such as "The culprit ran South, he was wearing silver buttons on his shirt, not gold." be it a significant or insignificant observation. Still, it's thanks to this he's able to make good plans and execute them.
+ Practical:
Leon is a practical guy who has no time for frivolities. His mindset is "If it's not useful, I don't need it." Generally, you won't catch him placing a vase of flowers in his room. Maybe a table with some paper though.
+ Level-Headed:
Leon is no dreamer, for better or for worse. He keeps himself grounded and in the moment, able to make quick decisions and make good judgments when needed. He also puts a good amount of time and reasoning into his plans, always wary of possible mistakes and has backup plans for them. Overall, he's a sensible guy; he has to be in his line of work!
+ Compassionate:
Although it doesn't seem that way when you meet him, or even when you get to know him, Leon is very compassionate. He just doesn't express it so much as feel it, especially for those he has gotten close to. Small gestures like offering a cup of coffee to the other or asking how they're doing that day are just a few Leon-like ways he expresses this trait. You'll find him passing off his concern as something else entirely, but if you know him well enough, you'll know his true intentions. "What? Helping you? I just thought chances of my survival are higher if you're alive."
+ Ambitious
Leon has an unwavering determination to see his goals through when he has them. This is what makes him an effective sellsword, as he puts his all into accomplishing whatever goal was set out for him.
+ Reliable:
Despite appearances, Leon is still a reliable guy. If he says he will be there, he will be there. If you've given him the payment for the job, he will work hard and see it is done.
+ Loyal:
Leon is a very loyal guy! Though, as he doesn't have many friends, just acquaintances, this trait isn't as apparent as others. When he does find someone he respects or deems worthy of his loyalty though, he'll support them if he can and will have their back. Definitely useful on the battlefield, that's for sure!

= Reserved:
Leon is good at keeping up appearances and tries his best to act composed in public, believing that if he shows too much emotion, it can cause a situation to worsen, so he keeps them to himself and tries to hammer a frown on his face at all times. In reality, his emotions have a big range and bottling it up can be difficult, so he will often have to detach himself from the situation to calm his head before he gets out of control and says something bad. Only twice has he let his emotions run wild, but that's two times too many and they've caused their lasting problems...
= Frugal:
Growing up on the streets and having to work hard with his mentor to get a living has left Leon with a thrifty outlook on life. He won't throw away things unless they're truly unusable, won't buy anything he doesn't need or plan to use, and won't hesitate to go the hand-made route when he can. The only time he's truly generous is with the beggars on the street who truly need the help. With them, he is incredibly generous and good natured, willing to skip lunch to be able to offer a few coins to them.

- Unforgiving:
With his independent personality, Leon is also tough on himself. If he makes a mistake, he turns the blame on himself, as he's only got himself to blame. While he uses this to better himself and pushes himself harder, there are times when he might be too unforgiving towards himself, which hinders him. In terms of others, you really only get one chance with Leon. If you break his trust or abuse his loyalty, you'll be on his list. Furthermore, depending on the severity, his vindictive streak just may find you unable to rest peacefully...
- Cynical:
Growing up as he has, Leon has seen the darker side of the world. In his line of work, the jobs he takes on are none too pretty. Be it a corrupted officer, a greedy noble, or a vindictive widow, nothing surprises him anymore. It's from these experiences that Leon developed a general distrust of others and believe that people are motivated by self-interest alone. After all, even he needs to live a life and if someone has to fall for that to happen, so be it...
- Prideful:
While not boasting, Leon does have a sense of pride and carries himself as such. He won't flaunt it, but when he does something well, he definitely gives himself a pat on the back. Despite this, it's actually a very delicate one. If something happens to embarrass himself, he might become more closed off while he tries to piece it back together. Just one of the things that come with having no one around to praise you; you do it yourself.
- Stubborn:
Usually only concerning himself with himself, Leon has a stubborn streak. If he decides on something or thinks something a certain way, it's difficult (but not impossible) to get him to see the situation in another way.
- Self-Centered:
Though he is aware of others, Leon thinks about himself first. He's very conscious of how other things will affect him, rather than how things will affect others.
- Detached:
Leon doesn't make it a habit of getting close to others. He feels if he opens up to others too much, he can become too vulnerable and they may take advantage of his weaknesses. Of course, this doesn't mean he doesn't have emotions or won't get bothered by a situation, it just doesn't happen often.
- Dishonest/Secretive:
Leon has no qualms about lying to others, sometimes his job needs him to be dishonest. White lies aren't something he'll lose sleep over, even medium lies. He won't say much about himself and if pressed, he may fabricate something just to get you off his back.
🍀 Likes 🍀- Food (Spicy in particular)
Leon has an iron stomach, since as he grew up he really couldn't be picky about what he got and ate what he was given. A result of that though, is that he's got a muted sense of taste, so strongly flavoured foods are ones he can really enjoy. Spicy foods are his favourite; feel the burn! As a side note, he has a big appetite and can put away quite a lot, since at times food was scarce and he had to load up when he was able.
- Learning something new
Leon is always looking to better himself, whether it's because someone pointed out a fault or he himself pointed out a fault. Though he may act indifferent, he's definitely listening in on the conversation a group is having about a skill or a trick they learned, and he'll for sure try it out later away from prying eyes.
- The stars and sky
An odd interest, Leon enjoys going out of the lantern light to somewhere dark on clear nights to look up at the stars. Ever since he was young, he's found the sky to be a fascinating thing, treating it a bit like an old friend. No matter how much changes around him or how bleak things look, the sky is still above him and the stars continue to shine even behind clouds. If he needs to clear his head, you can bet he's somewhere out in the open, looking up at the sky night or day, and sorting his thoughts (maybe even voicing them) with the stars as his witness.
- Small animals
Leon has a weakness to cute animals. The smaller, the cuter, the more likely he'll stop and interact with them. If he finds a cute puppy as he walks down the street, you can bet he'll stop and play. Ah, and that smile on his face? It's the real deal.
- Apples
Lately someone (or a few people) have been hounding Leon about his health. To counteract this, he's been eating a lot of apples to pacify them ("An apple a day keeps the healers at bay.")
🍃 Dislikes 🍃- Flying (Winged horses, wyvern, kinshi, etc.)
While heights aren't a problem for Leon when he's on something solid like a tall building or a sturdy tree branch, something about being on a living creature hundreds of feet in the sky just strikes him as a no-go. If you offer him a ride, he'll decline immediately and walk to the destination. If it's impossible to walk to the destination... Well, Leon will definitely find a way.
- Riding (Horses, automatons, carriages, etc.)
This time, it's nothing to do with fears, Leon just gets motion sickness. While easier to deal with and small distances can be covered if he really must ride in a cart or on a horse, he'll still prefer walking as opposed to getting a ride. On the plus side, his stamina is very good thanks to all his walking and running! (Boats are just a hold it in and count down the seconds until the journey is over...)
- Cold Weather/Winter
Cold weather makes Leon think of the early winters with his mentor, when it was difficult to stay warm. It also brings up old memories when he was on his own as well as bad memories of when he lost his cool. In the end, it leaves him feeling drained. At times he wishes he could be like a bear and sleep through winter.
Persistent/nosy people
Leon knows there's people out there who don't take no for an answer or who just don't quite get when someone isn't interested. He knows, but they still annoy him to no end. Don't try to push your luck with Leon, he'll like you more if you stop and you might find his doors opening up when no one is knocking. The guy needs some patience and in return will give you his!

.:🍂:. History .:🍂:.

Note:
You can see the detailed history here

Tl;dr:
- Leon grew up with his mercenary parents who took on risky jobs that over time, got them some tough enemies. Despite their care, they were ambushed at their home in the forest when Leon was nine and Leon was told to run. He made it to a town where the trusted family friend lived but it turned out that the trusted family friend is the one who sold out their location. (The mercenary has a bit of a vendetta for this man, but it's been shelved for army focus...)
- Too young and inexperienced to fight the man who betrayed his family, Leon fled. He found another town where he lived on the streets, stealing and using his sword skills to survive. He tried to steal from a skilled outlaw and was caught but the outlaw let him go, stating he was weak and his skills poor. Feeling challenged, Leon insisted if he could steal from the outlaw, the outlaw would have to teach him the proper techniques. He didn't manage to win, but the outlaw liked Leon's determination and raw skill and took him on.
- The outlaw became Leon's mentor and Leon traveled with him on jobs, learning new skills and improving himself. Sometime later in his teens, they tried to do jobs in Hoshido to let the heat they build up in Nohr cool down and would make stops in a shrine on the border of the two kingdoms. There Leon made his first friend, an energetic monk, and they grew very close.
- At the same time, the jobs they did were more dangerous, and a mistake was made, causing his mentor to be gravely wounded. They made it back to the shrine, but it was too late and his mentor passed away. The monk at the shrine tried to console Leon but his emotions got the better of him and they fought, ending the friendship. (He feels regret now, but he was a hot-headed person...)
- Leon returned to Nohr, finding himself alone once again, but this time at least, he had plenty of skill that he didn't have the last time. Resolving to rely only on himself he started anew as a mercenary for hire, working to survive yet not quite living, for he had no ambitions or goals.
- A few months in, he received a letter addressed to his mentor that revealed the man had been sending money to a family to support his sickly daughter; they were wondering why the money had stopped. Feeling this would be a good way to repay his mentor for all he did, Leon became the benefactor for the daughter, though continued to send it in his mentor's name.
- This continued for a time until the tensions between the two kingdoms grew higher, making mercenary work more dangerous and also harder for him to find. What's more, the village the daughter was staying at had burned down in battle and the family was asking for more money. Leon remembered that the Nohrian army pays well for soldiers, and with no other options in getting a steady income, he went to join the army.

History
Leon lived in a small house in the woods and was raised by his parents who were mercenaries, taking on various jobs ranging from simple escorts to targeted individuals to earn their living. Jobs like these take one or both parents out of the house and they would ask a trusted friend for help with raising Leon. Due to the nature of their occupation, they gained enemies or past clients who just don't trust them to keep their mouths shut with info they gathered. His parents were smart though, leaving no traces behind and making it difficult for any enemies to track them.

When Leon was around the age of nine, their home was surrounded on the one day the family was guaranteed to be together; his birthday. Knowing these attackers were after them and not their son, they armed Leon with his sword and pushed him through the window, telling him to run and not look back. He did as instructed and eventually reached the nearby town where the trusted family friend lived. He had been hoping to find help but there he saw the man exchanging coins with the leader of the group that surrounded his home.

Leon waited for them to leave and confronted the man but was easily overpowered. Easily overpowered, Leon was told the harsh truth of the world. The strong survive and the weak are removed from the equation; his parents shouldn't have let their guard down. The man let Leon go though, perhaps out of pity or some semblance of a bond they shared when he was taking care of the boy, or perhaps it was because Leon was weak and he believed the world would remove him in its own time. Whatever the case, the boy fled, angry and bitter.

Arriving in a new town, the street children offered to help Leon in exchange for his sword skills. They taught him how to survive on the streets. There was no time for sadness or anger when you had to worry about your next meal. Leon did as his parents said; he had to keep his eyes focused on the next day.

Two years of doing this, Leon made the mistake of trying to steal from a man who just so happened to be a skilled thief. The man caught him, but let him go, stating that the boy had a lot to learn before he could be a skilled thief. Leon took this as a challenge, not wanting to be seen as weak, and pursued the man during his stay in town to try to achieve stealing from him, stating if he managed to take something, the man had to teach him proper thieving skills. Although he came close, Leon never succeeded, but the man admitted that Leon had indeed stolen something from him. His respect. Leon's determination and skill had won out and the man took Leon under his wing and taught him.

Warned that if he's too weak and can't keep up, he'll be let go, Leon trained hard to match his Mentor's skill and exceed expectations. He was fully aware how the world worked by then. The strong survive, the weak are cast aside. He expanded his skills, learning lockpicking, reading, and writing. He would spend time practicing and honing his sword skills (since he wasn't able to use a bow like his mentor could) and overall just trying to improve himself.

It was in his late teen years that his mentor began taking on jobs from Hoshido, to balance out those in Nohr (and to wait out the heat they'd slowly been gaining with each successful job.) He would spend a lot of time passing through (or resting at) a shrine that lay right on the border of the two kingdoms. There he met a young monk who, through his persistence, manage to befriend Leon, granting the boy his first friend.

Although his guarded nature didn't let him share much with the young monk, they would still manage to have good interactions that were like rays of light in Leon's world. At one point or another, he felt his feelings morph into something unknown to him. Though it confused him, it wasn't unpleasant, but he had no time to explore it.

During that time, Leon was also assisting his mentor with many jobs. However, on one job, a mistake was made and it landed them in hot water. His mentor was gravely wounded and despite them reaching the shrine, it was too late to repair the damage. Although his monk friend tried to help console him, Leon's emotions were a mess and he snapped, unable to contain them. Feelings he had been holding back poured forth and the friendship they had was broken. After seeing his friend's hurt expression, his own probably mirroring it, he left the shrine and didn't return.

Nearing the age of twenty, things were different from when he was on his own before. He now had more knowledge about the world and certainly couldn't be considered weak. No, he had to keep looking forward. There was no time to think about the past and regret. Instead, he distanced himself from thievery; that was what his mentor did but he didn't have to. He followed his parent's path and started officially as a mercenary. He had come to the conclusion that the only one he could ever truly trust was himself.

As time went on, Leon found himself going through the motions of survival but lacking a goal past that. He felt like he wasn't content, but he wasn't unhappy. It was a strange kind of limbo. Then, three months into this, he received a letter addressed to his mentor. He hadn't told anyone about his mentors' passing; he didn't know who he could tell.

It came as a surprise to find out his mentor had a daughter. She sickly and being cared for by a family some distance away and the letter was inquiring as to his whereabouts and why the support money had stopped. Her condition had worsened and they needed it soon.

Seeing this as a way to give back to his late mentor, Leon wrote to the family (doing his best to mimic his mentors writing; he had ample practice.) supplying the money and promising it would be consistent again. He had a new purpose for his actions and took to it quickly.

A year later, the tensions between the two nations were rising and battles were more frequent. Jobs were scarce as people tries to simply get by and the family was asking for more support money as the village they resided in had recently been burned down. When trying to come up with other forms of income (preferably not having to resort to old thieving habits) Leon reluctantly recalled his time at the shrine, the day he fought with the monk, where it was brought up the army pays well for soldiers. Perhaps it would be a good experience to learn new skills at the very least. Being in an army was like mercenary work, but with an extended contract and (more or less) legal.

Besides, Leon thought as he stood outside the army camp entrance, until I can think of an alternative way to earn a lot, it would have to do.

.:🍂:. Trivia .:🍂:.

🌿 VoiceJapanese VA: ゆう十 | [Song Translation]
🌿 Trivia~ Leon's mercenary outfit isn't quite the same as the normal mercenary outfit you see. This is because he likes to cut corners, especially on personal affairs, so he made do with cheaper alternatives. He is also not the best when it comes to choosing designs, so plain (like his plain sword) is what he defaults to. Less armor makes him more mobile as well, which is his preference. The best you can say about his current set-up is at least his chest is protected!
~ Knows how to read and write thanks to his parents and his mentor, as well as his observation skills that let him pick up what others did. Though he wouldn't be able to write thick novels, it's enough to get him by in towns and with his clients.
~ His vision isn't all that great and it's especially apparent when it comes to reading small print, which takes him more times to do. Sometimes, when he really can't see, he smooth-talks his way into someone else reading it for him or summarizing what's there so he doesn't have to read it.
~ Leon is strangely popular with kids, who often attach themselves to him or follow him around, especially in his later years when some of the street kids called him "Big bro" and visited him when he was in town. He doesn't really understand why they like him, but he never turns them away, often humouring them. (Perhaps it's because desipte his indifferent comments, they know he's a nice guy?)
~ He is left handed but when he was learning to use his sword, he learned to fight with his right. For every other task however, he uses his left hand.
~ Dislikes tying up his hair or even cutting it and is really bad at doing so. However, he is told he looks cute when his hair is up, which makes him want to do it even less.
~ Night owl. He’s used to late nights and little sleep but when he does sleep, he’s completely dead to the world. It’s difficult to get him awake.
~ Is a light sleeper. Fast reflexes and quick on their feet. Can actually sleep in trees; essentially anywhere, and still be comfortable. He gained this skill having to do stakeouts with his mentor, be it to watch for law enforcement while his mentor cracked a safe or during a job that went wrong and hiding was key.
~ Likes coffee and hot chocolate, can’t seem to keep tea down so he finds ways of getting rid of it when given some or denying it when offered.
~ Leon has indeed killed before (his job requires it after all.) but details are best kept for support log! So, he has no qualms taking a life. It's just another part of his own.
🌿 Headcanons / Events> Leon went on a mission with Vahan and found his first friend. Vahan was a decent partner and Leon trusts him if they go on more missions. He got injured during the mission and Vahan was nice enough to visit and they learned of mutual book interest. Mini book club?
> Leon went on a mission with Toka and Cas, both who are.... Good at getting under his skin. HE doesn't call it a friendship but they've become close people to him and he'd probably take a sword hit for them. Also he now hates celery. :/
>Thanks to the Sightless attack, he's met again with Haruka, the friend mentioned in his history. Though Haruka wants to be friends, Leon is a little more reserved, starting slow. They haven't had a really good talk, mostly just getting used to each other's presence back in their lives, but some habits die hard. In any case, they're taking it one day at a time.
>It seems that during a short sleepover "Never have I ever" game to pass the time, Leon got full drunk and began to spill his feelings for Haruka. Long-time old crushes die harder than habits after all... Luckily Haruka had left the room at the time. Still, to long-time crush on someone who doesn't even know what love really is? Well, who knows what could happen.
>  During the peace treaty signing, Haruka saw Leon in action, performing easy kills and basically revealing a side of himself that Haruka didn't know (or at least, grasp...) which led to Haruka avoiding him for a good while. Leon worried Haruka was afraid of him now, as well as knew this was an inevitability if Haruka stayed in the army (which is why he continued to tell Haruka to go home and quit.)
> It was during the holiday festival that Leon attended with his acquaintances that he saw Haruka (in a group of his own friends.) Through encouragement from both sides, Haruka made a strange declaration that he'd show Leon just how strong he's gotten and won't back down. To Leon's confusion, that's about when Haruka started trying to actively talk to him again, so he supposes something the others said to Haruka made the onmyoji not afraid of him?
During the Sightless hideout infiltration, Leon was with Haruka on the same group. There, Haruka took the life of a young Sightless member that was threatening Leon (and also took on Haruka's visage, similar to how a member took on his own during the  failed treaty signing.) Leon did his best (at least, in his own way he did) to support Haruka through the rest of the mission and keep the boy focused.
Since then however, Leon's not talked to Haruka much. Only a passing greeting or shallow conversation if their paths happen to cross from army work, at best. He's been immersing himself in out-of-army jobs, trying to better himself and increase his skills after his poor performance at the hideout. (Nearly drowning, barely doing hits, etc.) Despite this however, Haruka's been on his mind and he wonders how the boy is holding up, having caught glimpses of the other and knowing something's off. The nagging at the corner of his mind knows something is surely up, but it's Haruka. He's probably found several other people to confide in by now... Right?🌿 Badges> Omamori 2019: Tokage - "Merit"

Other:

School is starting up so I might not be available for long-term RP. But short headcannons are always welcome~ Please don't be shy. ^o^Wheezes, oml this is so long?!

Even though Leon is a character that's been developing and stewing for ages (even HCs have been thought up for him!) he hasn't been part of the group, officially. //weeps

Somehow, writing him up and drawing him was really difficult? Maybe because I've been wanting to focus mainly on Haru and adding him too early would spread my attention?
At this point though, if I don't get him in soon, he'll be a ghost member with no reference profile or anything, weeps...

Man, he feels more exciting than Haruka but also I wonder if he's too developed? ;A; The history alone started as over 3000 words, then 1500, now about 500... But it's so bare-bones I'm trying hard to resist the urge to expand it. //Tells self it's just a tl;dr, those are supposed to be short.

That being said, he has lots of things I want to expand... Like his relationship with Haruka, the death of his mentor, even his parents and that loose end with the family friend who betrayed them. Even the pendant he got from his father could be put into play for another direction he could expand, if not for closure. Also, what's behind his bangs? Why're they so long on one side! (Only Haruka knows. //laughs)

To think he was originally designed to help Haruka develop but he became this complex... The irony? I really hope they meet someday when they've both matured in the army. Leon, you might be 21 and think you've seen it all but just like Haru, you have lots of room to grow! I wonder where they will end up? Time will tell! By that I mean if I have time to balance even one of these guys, then we'll find out where they end up. //sweats
I wonder if the true irony is that school starts tomorrow and only now am I finally getting Leon ready to take a more active role in the group. Well, at least this app is done? ;7;...

I could ramble more about Leon honestly, but this app is getting long enough. ;7; Good luck Leon, I hope you get in!
