I recognize that his past is overly tragic but it fits into my D&D story. So backstory first: the story is set in a world where good and evil are imbalanced to the point that dark clouds are encroaching across the land threatening to kill all it touches. Terrible monsters live in the fog and those who go in rarely ever return back out... Avalon is a pink haired high elf who had lived in a Forrest village far from civilization all his life. When he was a young adult, the fog encroached on his village and rather than fighting with his people, he fled in a sudden realization of fear. This was a moment he would regret for the rest of his life. When he returned tot he village hours later, the fog was everywhere but his people were gone. And refusing to accept their deaths he lived on for the next 20 years (8 aging years for elves) believing in his mind that it had been a nightmare and everyone was alive. He hunted for the village, defended the village, and cleaned the village to maintain the way it had always been but one day he was offered an invitation to stop the darkness for good. In his heart he knew everyone was gone and stopping this tragedy from happening to others meant the world to him so he joined a group of adventurers and after a recent battle, he had lost his sight but gained He ally of his new faithful companion, a griffin. My archer OC still has a lot of self growth and soul searching to do but I’ve come to see a little through D&D. He started it as a socially awkward hermit with irritable outbursts and a tendency to act out... ok, he’s still like that.... but he also sacrifices for his comrades and fights for his vision of justice. He has grown to value his traveling companions: a warrior, a paladin, and a tiefling bard. He has come to see them as his new family and inspiration. Granted, he is still very angst and seeking revenge for his dead village, but he is still growing as a character through weird and unbelievable experiences.
