Description Comparison of the early surgeonfish, Eonaso deani, and the menid Mene novaehispaniae, of what may be the early Oligocene of what is now the island of Antigua.

The only known specimen of M. novaehispaniae is lost, having been misplaced and forgotten somewhere in a museum somewhere in London, England. Most of the studies done of it have been done on an engraving made of the specimen. It may be a descendant of a transitional form between the Lutetian Italian M. oblonga and M. rhombea.

Eonaso deani is also known from a single specimen. Fortunately, its status is known (and is not lost). However, the site where the specimen came from is no longer known, as it is rumored to have had a hotel built on top of it long ago.
