How interesting.  So presumably, this ventulicolian was a better swimmer than its relatives?

I don't know, honestly.  The vetulicolids seem superior swimmers, if only because their oar and leaf-shape tails make their swimming ability clear.  Bannfids, on the other hand, well, seem more dubious in their ability to swim.  At least with Skeemella, it's almost all tail.
