I really like how this sketch turned out, so I'm stuffing it into the Gallery proper...

Various Ediacarans from the Mistaken Point Fauna, in what is now Newfoundland.

At top is Blackbrookia oaksi, an irregular-looking organism that may have been some sort of reoccurring bacterial formation, or a slimemold-like organism. Often found in intimate association with Fractofusus andersoni (re: the latter are often found on top of the former).

Fractofusus andersoni (lozenge-shaped) and F. misrai (spindle-shaped) are two species of the so-called "spindle organism" often found throughout Mistaken Point. The former is much more common than the latter.

In the center is Thectardis avalonensis, a cone-like organism that apparently lived with its apex stuck squarely into bacterial mats. How it maintained its upright position without help from any obvious holdfasts continue to confound its researchers. Its fossils depict the organisms having been knocked down, often over some other organism.

Below T. avalonensis is the "pizzabread" organism, Ivesheadia lobata (not to be confused with the living plant genus Ivesia, or "mousetails"), a circular mat with numerous "cheese bubbles." Personally, after studying its photographs, I prefer to call it the "focaccia bread" organism.
