I wanted to draw something a bit more personal. For the people who don’t know, I have fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes pain all over the body. I feel pain almost every day; sometimes moderate, sometimes to the point I can’t stand or walk, like my whole body is stiff and in pain.
I also have CFS (chronic fatigue) which I will maybe talk about in the future, but these two issues combined used to make it impossible for me to do almost anything; I had to leave secondary school and was bedridden for years because of the pain and fatigue I felt.
That was years ago and today I am doing better, I still have my bad days but I can manage them now. I never would’ve dreamt I’d be doing half the things I’m doing currently, and I’m very proud of myself for being able to push through the pain and hardships to get to where I am.

Fibromyalgia and chronic pain in general is still very misunderstood in the medical field. I was lucky enough to get a doctor who understood my symptoms, however a lot of people struggle to get their diagnosis, as it’s an invisible illness. They’ll be told that it’s all in their head, that they’re faking it; even if they’re living through immense pain every single day.

The purple butterfly is a common symbol amongst the fibro community, so I decided to include some in this piece. To anyone out there who is struggling with fibromyalgia or any chronic pain at that, know that you’re not alone and your pain is valid 💜💜💜
