Description Ugh, just read a HTTYD fanfic that left a horrible taste in my mouth--almost literally. Dreamworks managed to avoid the toilet humor for once, but that doesn't mean you have to drag it back in (we'd rather leave the stink outside, thanks). Seriously, what kind of loser writes this kind of senseless tripe? [link]

...

Oh wait. That's me, isn't it? Um, I blame the art block.

Firstly, I laughed when I saw the picture. I really love Hiccup's totally disgusted expression. Excellent characterization! I only noticed the urine stains after I read the fic, btw. Which leads to my second reaction, which was EMBARRASSMENT! I admit it! I blushed through the whole fic because I was picturing Stoick with his pants down in public and then Hiccup with his pants down in front of his father which is actually worse and then Astrid seeing Hiccup naked and then Hiccup covered with his own pee. (I think that pretty much explains my embarrassment lol.)

But at the same time, although I actually agree with the "leave the stink outside" thing, there's that immature part of me that still giggles at these things. (Btw, the fic wasn't badly written or anything - I remember finding it well-written actually. It was more the subject matter. XD) So overall, I guess I'd have to say: at the picture and at the fic (XD).

And Poor Hiccup!

They say if you put a person's hand in a cup of warm water while they're sleeping he/she will urinate involuntarily. I think they tested this in Mythbusters but I can't remember the result (it's probably untrue).

*nods knowingly*

If someone told me there would be a fanfic about how Hiccup was impregnated by Toothless without even having sex, well, I would've told them to get holes drilled in their skull. Oh well, if it's to people's taste then I can respect that. It gets points for originality, right?

If it was awkward reading it, it was definitely awkward writing it. XD

A female teen attempting to write on the bodily functions of something she's only seen from behind? Haha, smart. I'm not a writer, but it was still fun and an interesting change of pace. I've got so many art ideas swimming around my head and I hope I can get back into the groove soon (before I end up hurting Hiccup again).

duckerly28 In reply to avatarmirai [2010-06-03 23:50:40 +0000 UTC]

As long as you don't write him dying (for no reason, at least), I'm excited to see what you've got.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

avatarmirai In reply to duckerly28 [2010-06-04 00:01:38 +0000 UTC]

The idea about Hiccup's death makes me sad, especially when you consider the average lifespan during that time--maybe around 50? I also kind of wonder what extended exposure to high-altitude/low-oxygen conditions without a pressurized suit does to one's health. Eh, but I should stop trying to make justifications for his death.

I'll just be happy that he's a movie character (as much as I want him to be real) and that he'll live on forever.

duckerly28 In reply to avatarmirai [2010-06-04 00:08:03 +0000 UTC]

I know! After seeing the movie (the third time), I started thinking about how, at Night Fury speed, Hiccup probably should've snapped his neck a long time ago. D:

avatarmirai In reply to duckerly28 [2010-06-04 00:13:21 +0000 UTC]

I wow, I never thought of that! That's really intense ):

I remember my sister and I were talking about what it would be like if Hiccup ended up with a different dragon...such as a Deadly Nadder...and during the Test Drive scene it smacks Hiccup with it's spiked tail O____O; Not a pretty way to die.

In fact, the Nadders are so spiky anyway (especially with their crowned heads), and riding that thing is just a death trap waiting to happen.

duckerly28 In reply to avatarmirai [2010-06-04 00:26:05 +0000 UTC]

I know, that's why after thinking about that for awhile, I came on here and looked at all the adorable art. ♥

Yep, that's probably one of the reasons why Toothless is so smooth and squishy-looking. Hiccup wouldn't be able to handle any other dragon, I think. I still wonder how Astrid rides her Nadder. One little slip and... whoops. D:

Also, how does Snotlout ride his Nightmare if it lights itself on fire?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

avatarmirai In reply to duckerly28 [2010-06-04 00:36:32 +0000 UTC]

Death by falling, death by impalement, or death by fire?

Occupational hazards, indeed.

Even though it's the most unattractive of the lot, I think the Gronckle probably has the least rider danger potential to it. I love Zipplebacks though, their design is so cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

duckerly28 In reply to avatarmirai [2010-06-04 00:58:13 +0000 UTC]

Hiccup is probably going to figure all these problems out and create some more, uh... 'durable' riding gear. XD

Yeah, but the Gronckle seems like it would be easy to slip off of, with its round body and tiny little wings. If you fall off of that, well... hope that someone else is nearby to catch you. Plus, don't they often fall asleep mid-flight? D:

Agreed, Zipplebacks are my second choice when it comes to favorite dragons, behind the Night Fury, of course. (;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

avatarmirai In reply to duckerly28 [2010-06-04 01:12:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I forgot about that particular setback with the Gronckle. I definitely wouldn't want to be flying over the ocean or around Berk's mountainous terrain and then have my dragon fall (literally!) asleep on me. Dragons weren't really meant to carry humans anyway, but after a few generations of domestication I suppose things will start to work out.

Zipplebacks are my favorite after the Night Fury, too The only drawback is that the heads are autonomous from each other, which lead me to think that mating would be a very violent and confusing foursome. Just think about all the heads you have to untangle X(

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

duckerly28 In reply to avatarmirai [2010-06-04 01:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, there's probably dozens of setbacks with each of the dragons, but maybe after working with them for awhile things would smooth out? The dragons would probably learn that humans can't really withstand the same conditions that they can and the humans would learn to build really sturdy riding gear and saddles. XD

Yeah, you definitely need a partner to handle the Zippleback. And mating is something I don't even want to think about with the dragons; so confusing. D: I like to think that the dragons are like salmon, laying the eggs and then fertilizing them. But that's just because it seems easiest this way.

It's kind of embarrassing because after I finished writing, I was so proud of myself, then a couple hours later I was thinking "OH NO WHAT HAVE I DONE." When I run the plot through my head I cringe.

But hey, what's Dreamworks without a little squick factor?
