Description
This is my first attempt at oil pastels. I must say that I do like drawing with these ALOT. I also like how they blend too. Any tips in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Related content

That's really nice. I just started using oil pastels and when I tried to do a landscape last nigh, I failed miserably. Maybe I tried a picture that required too much detail on a 8 x 10. And good work with the colors.

This is very nice! I especially like the middle section, where there's so much subtle variation. I've been working a lot with oil pastels recently. I find it helps to work with them as I would any other artistic media... start out with a light overall map of the drawing, and refine gradually. Don't let the pastels get too thick too quickly, as that will make it difficult to change stuff or layer colors later. I usually let the grain of the paper show through at first, either by lightly crosshatching or shading with the side. This way you can build a lot of depth and nuance into the color. Have fun!

That looks great. The darker clouds at the top look awsome, very dimensional. Though they just look well..clumped there randomly. May try to spread it out a bit? Eh, maybe. My personal thing to do with pastels like that is to layer, layer, layer. The more layers that the thing seems to have the smoother the picture begins to look. it sort of blends itself really. See I hate blending it with oh say my finger or really anything else, so this technique was a must for me.
