Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

so this is supposed to be a critique then? i have never done one of these before, but here goes:

a six legged mobile fortress isn't necessarily original, but the way it looks makes it so. it looks really cool, to the point where it could exist in the future, and thus is actually an original design. something to consider though... where is this going to be used? 200 tonnes is a lot of weight form a practical standpoint. the M1A2 Abrams is 68 tonnes... but the Germans did try to create a 200 tonne tank during WWII. hmmm. 200 tonnes dispersed over 6 legs.... is reasonable, especially if the middle pair of legs was a little thicker than the other 4.

the technique used (digital 3D modeling software?) and the amount of detail put in is what made me want to write this. assuming this one in the image is brand new, the sheer amount of tinny details (ie guns, Armour pattern, etc) is what stands out the most to me.

onto the actual design analysis: the "turret" of this tank has a visible turret ring that connects it to the legs. modern tanks designs tend to hide the turret ring as much as possible, so that the turret wont get shot off. secondly... that Armour would have to be some kind of incredibly dense metal alloy to be 200 tonnes worth... even with all those weapons. thirdly, how many people does it take to crew the annihilator? again, depending on how thick the Armour is, and the positioning of the tank crew, you might be able to fight 5 in somewhere in the "turret"

overall... i don't have any issues with the design itself... most of them are minor practical issues. the artwork in itself, without the numbers is awesome, considering that you did use a 3D modeling software to make it.

Thank you for your feedback man, and yes this is the latest design.

A lot of its weight dose come from its armor, its thick, very strong and yes very heavy.

As for a crew it doesn't actually have one, it is fully autonomous/remote controlled.

On the next design I will keep in mind about the turret ring it, it probably should be more protected than it is now.

If you don't mind enlighten me i have a few specific question about the mech:

1) What is the effective range and Angle of fire (Arc of fire) of both Gauss Riffle and the long Range Sniper canons?

2) ammo count and type if possible for all weapon with the execption of energie base weapon?

3) Any ECM systeme on it?

4) Type of engine and autonomy when use Behind enemy line?

5) Crew size?

6) any defence for the underbelly? (At-At as that issue andΒ look what happen to it )

that will have to do for now

Thank for your time

Does lugging around that giant head thing make it slow or damage it's legs? It looks heavy.

Its not super fast, but the metals its made from carries its weight with ease.

You know I've been itching to ask this question every time I saw this image. What kind of defense does it have? When you have a unit like this with such rugged body, showing lots of weapons, you have to realize:
1. It's radar signature will be a straightΒ  give away that it is a powerful unit and as such should be engaged from long range.
2. Without proper defensive mechanisms (i.e. soft or hard-kill countermeasures) it can easily be overwhelmed by long range enemy units.
3. Without proper high-end tech defense (I'm assuming it is built in an age when shield tech is viable) any hit on any part can effectively damage that part, or more importantly: the weapon on that part. Imagine a heavy artillery shell hitting from very far. All those tiny guns (light guns I guess) will be destroyed. If a direct hit lands on it, many small parts will be destroyed easily. Also the enemy will not go with hitting the body if possible. They will go straight for the legs.

So my point is, what kind of defense will it have against such attack? We always have to assume that enemy will counter your attack with their own strong(est) unit.

On a side note: I would love to see this unit in SupCom mod.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Avitus12 In reply to ManushMonitor [2015-01-19 05:08:29 +0000 UTC]

No shield tech is not available when this thing is built, its only about 30-40 years from now, for defenses (there is a video coming that will explain everything in detail) but I can tell you that this unit has two main defenses, firstly its Armour is very strong and very thick, capable of stopping anti tank missiles and shells and you will notice that the legs are very heavily armored, secondly it has high powered pulse lasers that will destroy anything that is a threat to the armor or a weak spot, they are housed in the sets of five black dots that are on most of the armor plates, it can destroy hundreds of threats at once, so I hope that has out your concerns at rest

I have already made a small UEF version

Sorry for the late reply. I'm the same guy actually with the different profile "Mindsoulbody" on DA. I use two profile for my PCs and I keep track of you on both. Unfortunately I didn't check your message on this profile because of issues with my browser. Thanks for the detailed reply.

Also I can't believe I ignored the fact that it has Point Defense system for incoming threats. I mean obviously those are a must, even the designs I conjure up have them in plenty for protection.

Question is, will this be available for SupCom? You said it's UEF version, does it mean it's already ready for in-game implication? O.o

I really like this model.Β  The attention to detail is incredible.Β  The only thing I could see being done to it is a serious bump map to add to the level of realism by way of giving it a more used look, or in certain parts of the metal a distressed look reflecting all of the dings and abrasions it has taken, (deep scratches and divots and the like).Β  Even as it is it's awesome though.Β  Keep getting better...yeesh I know people that would kill to be this good. heheh!Β  Keep up the great work! Blackshadow40 [2015-01-12 08:25:21 +0000 UTC]

The idea is pretty awesome
as far as critiques go:
It's a little hard to imagine a 6 legged mega weapon galloping at 60mph especially with such a top heavy design, I would suggest putting treads on the bottom of the feet
or lowering the max Β speed number

otherwise looks greatΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Avitus12 In reply to Blackshadow40 [2015-01-12 09:18:07 +0000 UTC]

Well its speed comes from how big it is also, what would be a better speed, maybe 40mph?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blackshadow40 In reply to Avitus12 [2015-01-12 10:30:05 +0000 UTC]

I would agree with 35-40
Just given the number of guns and ammunition it would be carrying and the size of it, I would image anything higher with all that weight rocking about would lead to unnecessary stress on the joints.
The Front Mission 4 game (the opening cinematic specifically) has the movement concept I was thinking of, omni-directional treads under the feet to minimize unnecessary rocking and maximize speed.

Avitus12 In reply to Blackshadow40 [2015-01-12 10:55:19 +0000 UTC]

I changed it to 30 mph, I've never actually liked the concept of wheels on the bottom of legs, it just seams a little awkward :/

kinda hard to say ... this thing has so many details in it that it would be nigh on imposible for any average joe to see were it has flaws or not .. let allone the fact that it is a more fictional design anyway ..
best i could say maybe try out different colorpaterns, maybe a bit more shiny or chromelike simply more metalic, or maybe more rusty ... depends on what kind of enviroment and athmosphere you want to see it be in ...

other than that it kinda shows of how much time and work you put in this ... so realy ... i canΒ΄t give any real feedback on how to improve the model any further ...
