            In the coming months, we got settled into our new home. Mom became part of the hunting party and Dad became a border patrol. We also decided to become a part of the spiritual aspect of the pride as well, beginning to pray to and worship Yesu with the pride. I enjoyed all the new aspects that this pride had to offer.

           I also enjoyed meeting new friends. Three cubs in particular became good friends of mine. Mirai and Sarai were sisters, Mirai being the darker and older than me and Sarai being lighter and younger than me with floppy ears. Their den was very close to mine and so I played with them almost every day. Despite them looking different, being that they had spots even after the age you should have grown out of them, I never looked at them differently because of it. They were two of my best friends and that’s who I saw them as.

           Then there was Mikia, a cub who regularly attended the spiritual meetings with her parents. She and I would always play when we saw each other and would stick close any time we were at the meetings. We learned about Yesu together and the stories about Him and we were able to have that connection in common. While our dens weren’t super close, our parents would try and allow us to have playdates to play outside of meetings. She was probably my closest friend and the one I would share my secrets with; a friend who wasn’t just a playmate.

           As I grew older, things began to change. As we grew up, Mirai started to get a little too old for us. She chose to hang out with her older, adolescent friends as opposed to Sarai and me. While this didn’t change much at first, I just played with Sarai instead, eventually I did the same thing to Sarai. We would see each other outside our dens and greet each other, but we never hung out together. Mirai and Sarai had their friends closer to their age and I suddenly felt like I no longer fit in.

           Despite that, I still had Mikia. Even if I couldn’t spend as much time with her as I did Mirai and Sarai, I chose to make the times I did spend with her count. We would visit each other’s dens more often and our parents would even allow us to meet up in certain spots in the pride’s lands on our own. We would play games, swim in the river, and have deep conversations.

           Then one day, as we grew into full adolescence, she broke off our friendship. I would see her and run up to her and she would walk the other way. She would stop meeting me at our usual spots. She completely ignored me for a reason I was clueless to. Suddenly, I was alone. The bubbly cub I once was had dimmed and now? I was entering adolescence carrying a pain I had never felt before.

I hope you guys enjoyed chapter 4! Sorry it was a shorter one! These guys are such minor characters that I'm probably not going to give them a reference sheet

On a side note, this is definitely a more personal story for me. I relate to Zara here because I have definitely felt it. Maybe others can relate too.
