AKA I draw the lines for this drawing a month ago and then slapped effects on it until it was finished-

Without his staff, Sterling's magic tends to synthesize into a fire/lightning state. It takes some time to heat up and charge the air around him, then releases in a multitude of rapid, searing bolts around him. Sterling is invulnerable to his own energy magic, but still needs to prepare in order to redirect natural fire/lightning.

It is uncontrollable and typically tears through the landscape, setting trees on fire, ripping up the earth as lightning arcs over it, and causing water to steam. Even one bolt is usually fatal, from either the shock or the searing heat.

His uncontrolled magic is dangerous and destructive, often spiraling out of control if used too freely. His staff, like many other magic tools, is personalized to their user and is typically the only thing that can effectively redirect and manipulate his magic in a more controlled state. Because of this, anyone that dares to take/knock away his staff would soon find themselves regretting it.
