Description Catherine
Mechanical Pencil

For years she's been one of my favorite models; once I get around to it, there will be plenty of pieces featuring her on here.

We've had a running debate the last few years regarding her breast in this... I kinda had to compramise, to not show too much side boob and keep it decent, with the curves and lines of her back. To me, aside from the hair, the lines of her spine and shoulder blades was my focus in doing this piece, and the higher i brought that line, the more i cut out and distorted the image. To be fair, when she posted this, she cropped out about 3/8ths of an inch off of the bottom.

She's still a friend of mine, so its NOT okay to use her image for other projects. If you really must, let me know, and I can put you in contact with her. She has modeled professionally in the past, but thats not her thing now, so please respect that. Thanks!

Beautiful model! When you draw a friend like this, do you have them pose for you to draw live or do you take pictures and work on the drawing later?

Most of the time I take pics to use later on; some poses are hard to hold for more than a few secons, an really I take forever to draw. Woulnt expect them to hold for that long, let alone keep the lighting

We sound a lot alike Although I really would like to grow in my ability to draw from a live model - part of it is getting over my own self-consciousness!

I know what you mean; in HS I used to draw a lot of students sitting across from me; still do strangers every now and then, at the coffee shop etc., but I do feel kinda wierd having somebody just sit for me. That, and most of the friends who WOULD model tend to get self concious being drawn =\ We'll see, I might be able to convince some folks to let me draw while they study

No way - I do the same thing! I love to grab a coffee at Starbucks, take a seat and pick someone out to draw. The expression so often on their face when I give them the sketch makes me soooo happy to be an artist!

I'm going to shoot you a watch - stay in touch!

thank you guys! this was all done w/ a mech pencil (just the regular bic from officemax), lots of layers, but no blending or stubs or erasers or anything. I really like this piece, and I've been debating revisiting it with all the tools i've learned to use of late; any thoughts from out there in the wide DA world??

She looks like a patient and careful model. Very nicely done! It looks like a lot of fun! I remember when I used to model for sketches and paintings. It definitely takes a lot of patience to get the references right. I didn't always have it!
