Description This is the strangest work... I only spend like an hour or so on it cause I was rushing... and my teacher told me "Judy you are finally understanding the impressionist way" or something like that... and she gave me an A- on my work! O.O I was shocked cause there are works like the Dreaming girl which I spend like 3-10 hours on it.. yet she only give me a B or even a C! And wow... I was so shocked with the grade...

I was researching impressionist art. I have just started teaching myself about pastels. I have only had one oil painting class about 15 years ago. But I have enjoyed art since I was 4 and am now 58. I want to relax and try impressionist work now and found your painting….I really like it!! I did try a water color class in college (about 6 years ago) and did not like it OR the teacher. So I too learned that grades do not matter sometimes especially in art! To me art is all a matter of opinion. I hate Picasso's work but obviously not everyone shares my opinion! AND so many people like your work above….Including me. Keep up the good work and learning.

I used to go to a visual art high school and a similar thing happened to me there on water color/gouache painting class. I guess what I learned then was that sometimes it's good to let go of the work in a early state and not to brush up the details too much, otherwise the work will be overdone and lose some of its strong points.
I think this is very beautiful piece. It really stood out from the impressionist stuff that I browsed a while ago Aaand, I'm gonna fav this! ^^ Keep it up! :>

Don't always trust grades when it comes to art. After all, how can you put a grade on something like that? I know I've gotten good grades on the things I hate and vice versa, and I even got beat in a competition by things I thought sucked. That's just the way it goes. But this, no matter how you feel about it and no matter what grade it got, is beautiful by most anyone's standards.

Wowzers. That is pure Impressionism. I'm putting one of my Impressionism works up next Friday, and it looks a bit like this. Great job!

You're welcome. And here's mine, fresh from the scanner (which makes it look a lot worse for some odd reason...): [link]

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. I'm in Junior High. So this is pretty good for my age group.

This is really beautiful and well done, and only in 1 hour!? Amazing!

I think your teacher is right. I think you have a really good sense of what kinds of colours work and how much to apply. I really like the bright greens and yellows in this piece for some reason.
