I really like the way that you put this piece together. It is all blended well and looks very natural. I took the time to go look at all the stock images and was astounded!

I think the only thing that I would change on it is the lighting. With him holding the lantern and the magic in his hand I almost expect it to be a little darker setting. Maybe closer to dusk than bright daylight. It would be interesting to see him lit from the one side by his lantern light and then have a glow from his magic as well. This is purely a personal preference though e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />.

Otherwise I actually had to look at this piece's category in order to realize it was not a photo. All I kept thinking was that this was a great shot to capture... then I realized you didn't "capture" it quite the way I thought. Very well done e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/wā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)" /> I love it.

When i first glanced at this image, I thought everything was natural, meaning stock was not used. However, the more I looked at it, I started seeing the elements of photoshop. While this is incredibly well done, there is an issue of shadow. The man is entering into a forested area of the woods, into shadow, and yet his hood looks like it is in daylight. There is a glare off his arms as well, giving the impression of light. Also, the lantern would not have that much of a glow in that amount of light.

besides that, it is VERY well done.

At first glance, I thought this was a photo, until I looked at your artist's comments. And I love the subject matter;Juliet Marillier is one of my favorite authors!

You're getting really good at merging the images and matching the lighting. The figure blends with the background perfectly.

I haven't read any of the other critiques so forgive me if I repeat something... also I don't have a premium account so here's a generic critique

Vision: ****
I really don't know what vision is supposed to mean. Is it your idea? If so I like your idea, because I like fantasy, and it does have a fantasy feel.

Originality: **
Putting him in the woods is kind of expected or cliche, but the magic effect is pretty cool.

Technique: ***
The top half of him looks too bright or too much contrast for the rest of the scene, but the bottom half matches pretty well. The colors seem a little on the cool side for so much warm greenery around.

Impact: ???
WTF is that? did it make me laugh or cry? did it change my life? no. That's kind of a dumb attribute to judge on, but I suppose sometimes art will do those very things. I think a better attribute would have been "Overall". Overall I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

My suggestion on improving this would be to turn it darker, and make it more like an early evening or night time scene... maybe some glow effects on the lamp and the magic that will reflect on him and the ground... moonlight shining through the background trees. Just a thought

Hope that helps.

It's really neat. I've never read that book so I don't know exactly what you're going for, but Cathal looks a bit incongruous with his surroundings, the green stuff coming up from his hand is a bit odd, and his face looks strange - kind of distorted, but in more of a confusing way. Other than those little things, I really like this picture - the concept is so wonderfully creepy.
