I know the common consensus for a human/gijinka Lud is either mad scientist getup (aka Kooky), sweater vests, waistcoats, orchestral conductor tailcoats, or jabots/cravats. And as much as I wanna draw him in any of those outfits, I also want my version of this dude to stand out in some way among the others.Solution? Draw his casual attire first. Let's say any of the above options are for when he has to dress up for something important, like meetings, galas, holiday parties, battling the Mario Bros., etc.
In truth, Ludwig heavily dislikes dressing up, mostly because it reminds him of his prior life as an aristocrat before ending up at Bowser's Castle. And while he's technically risen even higherΒ in status by becoming an unofficial Prince, he'd still much rather walk around in more comfortable clothes until dolling himself up becomes mandatory.
And since I'm still in a headcanon-y mood, here's some extra tidbits:
- Using magic without a catalyst of some kind (a wand, a book, etc.) is incredibly difficult for most beings. While Ludwig is the best magic user among the Koopalings (who already possess great skill on their own), he still struggles with using magic without his wand, and all his attempts to do so end up leaving him exhausted.
- He has bits of stubble because he's debating on whether or not he should grow a goatee, or even a full beard. Sometimes he shaves it off. And no, I'm not making excuses for when I forget to draw it on.
- As you've seen in other pics, Ludwig can set his hair on fire when he's agitated, and has been able to do this since he was very young. It doesn't hurt him at all.
- Unless, of course, he's overheating, which is a whole other can of worms.
- He avoids touching Fire Flowers and food or drinks with Fire Flowers in them because that runs the risk of overheat.
- He doesn't know how to swim.Β
- He is the only one of the Koopalings who still calls Bowser "Lord Bowser." While he does view Bowser as the father he wished he had growing up, he's still afraid to outright say it.
- By extension, he's afraid to verbally address the other Koopalings as family (except Lemmy because they're cousins). He isn't sure how to ask them "What am I to you?" without making it awkward or humiliating.
- Tldr; his upbringing left him somewhat neurotic because his parents heavily emphasized the importance of how you're viewed by others.
- As a Koopa, he has a crooked tail. It's fairly common for Koopas to hatch with or develop slightly bent tails, and while it can be corrected, it's not a necessary procedure.
- The bent tail is a reference to Kooky Von Koopa. ;3c
- Lemmy also hatched with a crooked tail, but got his corrected. Ludwig claims that he didn't get his fixed because he was already used to it, but in reality he was scared of the procedure. His parents were going to force him to get it fixed but eventually gave up after Ludwig nearly burned the house down in a panicked fit. Several times.
