Oh, look. Non-skanky, yet feminine armor. What a concept!

I'm a firm believer that women can be action heroes (heroines?) without whoring themselves out to no end.

"Whoring?" Hmm. That's a strong word to use.

It's really easy to just throw out a finger and object to the writers, artists and leads who approved of certain questionable design/writing choices in regards to a character. And it is fine to point it out. What a lot of people don't understand is the inherent "sexiness" of a character doesn't always - or need to - come from the costume. And if Japanese subcultures have taught us anything, people will find anything sexy. Even opaque helmets and decorative swirly environment suits.Β Whatever a character is wearing has to make "sense" within context of lore and character personality. The last thing I want to do is slutshame a character for what they themselves choose to wear, and especially when it's been thoroughly established and addressed where appropriate.Β

So when it comes down to it, it just means people have to be more aware, sensitive and knowledgable about the things they wish to portray.

Well I do apologize if my wording was strong. When I was using that term, I was thinking of characters like "Red Sonja" and others like her whose armor basically equates to chain mail/plate armor bikini. I've always thought of outfits like that highly impractical as armor. As fetish fuel, however, it is highly effective and practical.

And all this really boils down to is just my opinion. I personally feel that "armor" like that breaks the suspension of disbelief within a story. It certainly is distracting enough for people not to care whether it does or not. So from a creator's standpoint, it's a win-win. Sex sells, and most people (the normal people) don't really care about the practicality of the armor. I only care because for me, I giggle a little bit seeing some of the ridiculous things that come from some creators. One of my favorite super heroines is probably Powergirl. Have you seen her outfit? Scratch that, you're on DeviantArt, of course you have. She's got a huge gaping hole that's commonly referred to as the boob window on her outfit. The creators have been making jokes about it for years. So believe me when I say that sometimes I'll see something like that and just laugh.

As far as what people will consider sexy, I definitely agree. In a world of several billion people, there are going to be several billion unique tastes as to what defines sexy. What I find sexy and alluring may not be the exact same thing you find sexy and alluring.
