Description

This is a specially meaningful picture to me because the customer and I have been planning the commission ever since his wife was pregnant and they didn't know what the baby was. I waited on them through the suspense, and then finding it was a lovely little girl, and then waiting a few months and getting her references - beautiful, adorable smiling-baby references. It was also one of my first attempts to grass detailing. Now I see I’d have put a bit more contrast/color variation in it, but I really like the overall childbook, soft style I’ve achieved with this.

This is probably the commission that took me the longest to complete, too. From initial contact through art hiatus to awaiting payment to waiting on the pregnancy, then getting the customer to send all the reference I needed to pose experimentation to waiting for feedback, etc etc, this piece has been in the making for over a year!
Therefore I’m not even mad about the mistakes/things I’d change in this picture by now. Also partly because half of it’s price was a gift from me to this lovely family, as a celebration to the birth of the lovely baby in the picture, and I have absolutely no regrets.
