Haha, Holly has an auburn crew cut (as far as I know, the books never specify how dark or red it is, though some artists like to do her hair really red), but in TTP, she wears a white "star trooper" wig, which Artemis gives to her when they raid his wardrobe for clothes, to cover her ears. Β I tried to look up what a "star trooper wig" is, but I never really figured it out, so I just ended up drawing the white hair how I felt like. Β (I didn't even really make the wig cover up her ears, because I thought, the pointy ears are the funnest part...) At this point in the book, Holly's still wearing the wig, though she gets rid of it almost right after this scene, at least from what I remember.

(Oh, btw, I'm coloring [link] and I'm wondering what the lighting should be :/ I thought to make a yellowish light come from the top left corner- to contrast with the cool colors of Artemis- and make cooler shadows where Holly is, but should I make the light shine on Holly instead, to match the lighting with their coloring? I want your opinion

Ah, the image that's like the iconic image of that scene, that should be fun! :3 Okay, let me see if I understand correctly...you're thinking of first, putting a yellow-ish light source in the upper lefthand corner, or else making the light source shine on Holly. So, in the first option, the light source would shine on both of them, kind of on the top of their heads. In the second option, the light would shine more on Holly...from the upper right hand corner, right?
Well, there are probably multiple directions you could go with it and it would all work. (I notice in one colored version of this picture, the artist decided to make the light source the blue sparks, which was between them and illuminated both their faces, which was kind of neat.) If I was coloring it, I think I would kind of lean toward the upper righthand corner approach and casting Holly's face in shadow (where the back of Holly's hair would be illuminated, but her face would be in cooler shadow, and Artemis would be in Holly's shadow). I think the slight shading on their faces that iesnoth put in the drawing seem to point in that direction. I really like that little bit of shadow that Holly casts on Artemis, it seems to help emphasize their physical closeness, and I think the shadow on Holly's face also has the added effect of enhancing the emotion of the picture. (You know, I mean Holly's happy and relieved, but there's other emotions iesnoth communicates in Holly's face in this image. Like...there's kind of an intensity, stress, almost, which makes sense considering the emotional ordeal she's just undergone, and the fact that she's crying. Having that part of her face in shadow adds to that sense of stress.)
Oh, and, if you had the light source in the upper corner, I could see where you might also shade some of Artemis's face in lighter, warmer tones, like on his cheek, where Holly might not be casting a shadow, so they both might have warm colors and cool colors.
Heheh, I so love doing comics <3 But I don't want to let anyone see them until they're semi-decent XD (I started doing one from TAC with Orion when someone suggested it months ago, but...there have been issues, lol. That, and I'm so in love with iesnoth's and Megan-Uosiu's TAC comic, it's hard to draw anything having to do with TAC without making comparisons and being plagued by a sense of infinite inferiority, hehe. How I wish those who handle the AF series and merchandise would hire those two to do the entire series...I would buy them all.)
