Description I'm not sure Muffin got spooked by the rabbits...alone. After she ran a bit and noticed Lyon wasn't on her back anymore, she turned back around to investigate, that's when she saw the human, and noped out of there HARD.

I’m kinda surprised Muffin was actually that scared. I volunteer at a wildlife rehab and squirrels are bold little jerks that won’t hesitate to lunge and scratch at someone, or even lunge and bite. Despite the small size, they are surprisingly fearless at times. They do usually prefer to avoid people, but I’d say at least a third of them will run right up to a person or even go on the attack, even if their sibling is keeping distance. And if you give them a reason to be bolder, even if that reason is as simple as the biggest acorn is by your foot, then even the shy ones will go right up to you. And for something they know isn’t a predator, like a rabbit, they show even less fear. I seen one in a park attack a rabbit because the rabbit hopped too close to where it just buried an acorn... despite the hundreds of other acorns around.

But it does make the story more interesting, and my experience is mostly with eastern grey squirrels. I know some species are much less aggressive and bold.

Squirrels in America are a whole different breed. In Europe squirells are evasive and very difficult to spot, even in parks where people would feed them (they feed ducks and pidgeons) the squirells won't show themselves. I feel rather envious of the braver, sassy squirells there.

Interesting to learn. I do love learning about animals. But don’t be envious, they’re known to go on the attack!
