I fully agree with this. We need more Megaman! ^^
But I'm pretty sure that Capcom knows that Megaman is still popular. The problem is that Megaman isn't profitable anymore. Creating a Megaman costs quite a bit of money, and, judging by the lack of new Megaman titles, the games don't make as much money as the other games Capcom now produces (at least when keeping the production costs in mind). And (sadly) in the end, Capcom is still a business, and those primarily look for the highest profit possible.
Still, one can hope that someday Megaman will come back.

I think Megaman is still profitable. Story-wise there are a lot of years between Megaman classic and X where they didn't explain anything. There are the elf wars too.
And they still can make use of the megaman gameplay if they do side scrolling platformers games. I think this kind of game isn't so expensive and the formula they use is fun and fans would appreciate it a lot.
Anyway let's see what they do with Megaman franchise
