Description
Húrin of Emyn Arnen was the first steward of Gondor whose name was recorded. The stewards succeeding Húrin were all his descendants, and the position of steward eventually became hereditary, which is why the House of Húrin is also called the House of Stewards. Húrin was of high Númenórean blood, but not related to the royal house. When the royal line died out in Gondor, the steward at the time became the first of the Ruling Stewards, who would reign over Gondor until the return of the king. It was customary for members of the House of Húrin to name their children after legendary figures.
