I use normal synthetic brushes. Winsor Newton's Cotman range. They're my most favourite brushes, have never let me down in 6 years. And this painting was made built up with a lot of layers. I spread water all over the page and first put light yellow. Let it dry, then again water all over, then a darker yellow, then let it dry and so on and so forth with cadmium orange, then red, then burnt sienna, a bit of purple and indian red. When the background colours were all done, I painted the sea in very light washes of purple with a very thin brush and the footsteps. Then lastly the silhouette.
