Description Everybody say hello to my newest character, Jillian! Partially designed by the members of the 910CMX forums when I announced that I wanted to draw a random Shivite holding some kind of weapon. A firearm won the race, and so this character became a soldier in one of Tradugu's armies.

I might post some backstory about Jillian herself at some point... At the moment, all I can tell you is that her real name is Ilumhanjouna Amorneth, the first part of which could be Anglicized into Jillian. (You can thank ~Daitou for pointing that out to me. )

Loooots of perspective and overlapping stuffs going on here, and strangely, at no point was I ever confused about what went where. Maybe that's because I had clear vision this time. <.< My original idea was gonna be Jillian driving a vehicle with a larger gun mounted on it, but as I was working on the sketch, my muse kicked me in the face and said, "That's stupid! Draw her holding one instead! And use soft inking!"

So Jillian is wearing what would pass for Tradu military armor, minus a helmet. I thought about adding one, but I decided it would be kinda distracting to the viewer, even if practical. Besides, then we wouldn't get to see all that hair, and hair is a rather important cultural symbol of identity among Shivites. Even males tend to keep theirs at least shoulder-length. (Yes, this means Tradu soldiers aren't necessarily required to shave off or tie up their hair. However, they are still expected to have a mentality as selfless and obedient as any good soldier.)

Anyways, many parts of the armor are holdovers from back when Shivites still killed each other with swords, but those elements are slowly being modernized. It should be noted that armor and weaponry on Tradugu is painstakingly magnetproofed and lightningproofed. The alloys used to forge metallic plates contain no iron or copper. Makers of modern battle armor use no metals at all, opting instead for a hard lightweight plastic to make their "plates" and a flexible yet tough fabric to make everything else.

Okay, now to talk about the rifle itself. Why is she mono-wielding? Because that rifle has three triggers on it. The primary trigger is where you would expect it to be, near lower right index finger, and it fires four rounds per pull. (Yes, I know the standard is actually three rounds per pull, but I have a theme to keep up here. <.<) The secondary trigger is the side-facing handle just above it. Pulling it back loads a mini-rocket from the feeder shell just above it. Pushing it forward fires the loaded rocket. The third and final trigger is that thing she's grabbing near the end of a barrel that looks like a microphone or speaker. This is what's called an Amplifier, and it filters the holder's thundergland uses and makes them more powerful, allowing the wielder to jam the enemy's communications or fire lightning bolts strong enough to overwhelm another Shivite's natural resistance. In light of all this, using a fourth hand to steady the weapon is very much recommended.

By the way, writing up that spiel forced me to change a few things in the Guide to Tradugu. Rainbowsteel is still considered an important resource; However, it's primarily used for spaceship parts and some buildings.

Thanks again to everyone over at the 910CMX forums for helping me out with this drawing! ^^ I am quite exhausted now, so I think I shall take a break from my computer until MythBusters starts... >.>

I'm not really knowledgeable about guns, so I'm just gonna say use your imagination on this one. >.>

A great character, drawn from the muse is always the best way. Follow instinct. Bravo

I shall restate my desire to see more things designed by Shivites for Shivites... Yes, I confess, as good as the rest of the picture is, I'm most interested by the way somethings designed for a different body-type.

Alright, now I finally feel it's okay to give my commentary on this piece. I was worried for a bit that the help you got from the other forumers might turn into a "too many chefs in the kitchen" situation, but thankfully that wasn't the case.

I really like all the small touches you managed to incorporate into Jillian's armor. One point that stands out are the protrusions that line key points like across her shoulders and down the front of her thighs. In addition to matching the point you made about a design that catered to deflecting blunt weaponry, it also helps to give each piece extra depth and definition. The modifications you've made to her weapon are expertly accented by its coloration. Your addition of small details in red and yellow further down the barrel help to incorporate the rocket pod into the overall design, which might otherwise stick out like a sore thumb. Your addition of the cluster of bombs attached to her belt also help to give the image more life; their movement cues in the viewer to movement in her body at large, and it's easy to imagine her in the middle of making a quick turn to her right in order to line up a target.

Small details that could be improved include her upper left hand and the design on the rocket pod. For the former, her pinky seems a bit too long, perhaps from emphasis on its nail, and it throws off the proportions of her other fingers on the barrel. For the latter, the way you have the pattern now, with each square bordered after inking, gives the impression of separate tiles when it should be a contiguous piece of metal with the design painted on top of it. These are nothing bit, however, and don't interfere with the overall impression of the piece. You worked long and hard to improve upon your original concept, and it shows. Good job, Az!

This is awesome for it just being a shivite. I wonder what one would look like in a 'fallout' kinda setting.

Shame there's no Mythbusters on this week. >_<

But that gun has quite a lot of power in a smallish package.
