Since no one else has pointed it out, I thought I should add to all the compliments you received that
this is an amazing representational image of the vipassana process. The fact that you combined a day
image and a night image is also perfectly appropriate.
The first remarkable thing about this photo is how it "clicks" with the title intuitively. "Nil admirari," as
you have on your tag above. During the first part of vipassana (shamatha), as you know, the various
visual experiences occur behind the closed eyes. The photo represents that very nicely with the darkness
and the flecks of light that are the star trails. As shamatha moves down (as alpha goes to theta), I
generally see a bright spot of light (and, oddly enough, in the lower right of my visual field). The light is
surrounded by a hazy glow (sort of like the sun behind the tree silhouette), and it slowly moves to the
center of my field of vision as the meditation deepens. Once it is centered, the light becomes intense,
and that is when thoughts may be individually stopped and "examined" (or followed to their initial
neurological source down the chain of skandhas).
As symbolism, the photo is also very rich, since it includes the tree (Tree of Life, Tree of Knowledge,
Bodhi Tree, vagus nerve) and the implication of the sun, moon, and stars takes one to Western
Alchemy while the degrees of light and dark and their placement in the composition is nicely Taoist.

I was looking at your metadata and am surprised that you had star lines when shooting at those speeds!

Aw man, he hid his reply (actually, every single one he posted in this). Could you spoil what he said about the shooting speed?

Oh, I was reading the comments in this deviation to see what the artist had to say about it, but he hid everything he replied... so I thought I'd ask you for what it was.

He said that it was 2 shots. He shot that at 1/4000 and I thought it odd that he had any star trails at all. I did nature photography for years, but the thrill was gone and I sold all of my gear. I would like to learn graphics and do some art; however time is an issue.
How about you?

Oh, I just started photography classes a month ago and am pretty much excited about all the possibilities. x)
Still gotta buy a camera though.
About this shot, even with 2 pictures taken it would not make this trail... maybe there was some kind of post-production interpolation between two star positions to create the in-betweens?

Perhaps you are right; with the metadata submitted it didn't look correct. If you want great shots of the moonless night sky speed is important; aperture not so much.
Good luck on your new hobby. What kinds of things will you be shooting? Have you thought about which camera yet?

I thought that pretty fast and an awfully small aperture. Thanks for the secret!!! Greatly appreciate solved mysteries. What software did you use?

Oh, things are kinda expensive here in Brazil, so I'm thinking more with my pocket for now, since I don't have any field experience.
I'll probably get something around 600 U$, maybe a Nikon or Canon and buy some lenses when I get more money.
About the theme of my photos... I like urban landscapes to work composition, I'm just a little afraid to take my not-even-bought-yet camera to the streets here, I've been robbed before. xD
Abstract photos are also very nice, but I'll probably go deep into it when I get a macro lens.
Went to your profile to see your pictures, where are they? D:

Ok, this is going to sound totally cheesy. I've been thinking of taking a 10 day Vipassana meditation course, and now here's this photo like some sort of cinematic sign, but it's gonna be really inconvenient. Has anybody ever done one of these courses? What was your experience like?
