I was captivated by it and asked her if I could paint it. She kindly agreed.
I hope you all like it.
It was done 100% digitally, no scanner or anything. Its the first time I've done something like that! I was also trying to use the same techniques I would in an acrylic painting such as blending, smudging, bluring, and not using layers, but instead having everything on one layer. Then when I was finished I added a canvas to make it feel even more legit.

Awesome, it does look just like a canvas. I think its an interesting touch how some strands are blurred and others crystal clear. That really adds dimension.... good!

Wow, this turned out beautifully. The photograph, to be sure, was wonderful. But this piece really adds something--I think it's the texture that really brings it to life.
I will say that some of the strands of hair are just a bit too big--the blurrier ones. Getting hair to look natural is definitely difficult, and for the most part you did a really good job. I think maybe you should try playing around some more with brush size and opacity.
I love how you kept the colors so pure, it really makes the painting quite powerful.

wonderful work! what program did you use to make this? the hair is especially what gets me, particularly the hairs on her neck. the detail in the rose and lips is amazing as well.

It's free and really standard. A lot of people hate it, but I love it!

I really like this piece, especially the high contrast of it. The black and white really makes the red lips and rose stand out. I'm also impressed that you did this in one layer. The canvas effect gives it that painted feel, which is nice. well done!

Very pretty. I like the individual strands of hair and the simplicity of the design. The only thing I find particularly distracting is the canvas texture--you can see the crosshatching pattern made from what I assume is the preset canvas filter on your graphics program. A better option would be to find a texture stock image and overlay it--that way it looks more natural and you have more control.
I think you did a really nice job with this piece overall--especially if it was your first fully digital work. Keep up the good work.
