HI! first off all -good work-
and abaut the task!
1) what coloring program do u use??? (adobe is good loats of tools!)
2) perhaps u should try filling large areas then use the "sponge/britghtening/darkening" tools to give a more smooth
effect and perhaps use the finger more!!! (u can never have to manny layers! ) i use the wand (magic pen???) to colecct ares for coloring... good luck!

use references for your coloring. and theres a little bit of pink and light blu in everything--ive found. makes it look more realistic

I cant say much about the colouring, I mainly use old fashioned paint. it looks pretty good to me. What prompted me to leave a comment was the picture itself, I love the concept, the whole semi-naked women actually feeling the cold.

I like to use a multiply layer to color and another over that one to do shading. That way I can use the original color to do the shading and I think it has a less drastic look than using greys or blacks to do it. To highlight I go back to the color layer and use the lasso tool to grab the spot I want hilighted and set the feathereing to a controllable amount (the number depends on how hi a dpi you have it set on). Then I use the eraser tool on about 30% so that the change isn't drastic. I use the eraser tool so that I have a little more control over the hilight. Sometimes you want to be able to feel imperfections in the area being highlit so this technique helps.

Hope you find this helpful.

I think the coloring looks pretty good, imo. Needs a little bit of work, but it's a good attempt. The artwork itself is top-notch (not to mention really hot. ). Great job!

Forget the colouring, the picture is absolutely beautiful!!!!
These are my three favourite gals, and O_o, skimpy clothing is fun, tee hee.

I love the expressions, especially on Lara.... she does not look too happy

yea, i picture her as the butch take-no-crap member of the trio, and therefore depicted her as everything but happy. but its really cool that you noticed! thanks!

Your colours look just fine to me.

I work using a few layers:
The lineart on top masking away all white using [Multiply]
A (invisible) map for easy selection created using [Lasso] and a flat colour.
A layer for the shaded character.
Background.

An example:

How people work seem to differ quite a lot

The only thing I can find with this is that there could be a little more colour to it, and to get a better consistancy, use a more solid brush, then feathe rthe edge with a soft brush, maybe a larger one so that it almost seems to blend into the layer below it. And unless you're going for something shiny, try one or two base layers of very light colour, or even another shade or colour laid in a different way to solidify all of the colours, bring them closer together, and make it look like there is a surface to the material. Reserve the white spots for metal and stuff. I've never used the lasso tool myself...... I don't even know what it's for, albit all the times my friends have tried to explain it to me along with the dodge tool. I just use layers, brushes, and easers, then merge the layers when i need to. I don't even blend the layers, which is something some of my friends do. Well, it still looks good!

hamzapecenkovic [2004-01-04 09:23:58 +0000 UTC]

well first off some crits.. okay well i dont know if u were going for a leathery look to their clothes err..their skimpy clothes...okay the way u did the higlites makes it look like those are leather red stuff so i guess thats cool.lol..okay any ways i dont know if anything else is wrong with the colors everything looks good to me...

...the way i color (im no good) okay so basically i just duplicate the background layer and set the duplicated to multiply i go over the original layer with the paint brush and the color to use is white. then i create a layer where the color for the, for example, skin will go. then i do one for clothes and then a hat, etc... this way u color behind the black lines

after im done with all the flats i create a layer for the shadows above the flats but below the duplicated layer. i set the opacity to about 30% and i use black to fill in all the shadows, u can do that and the flats by either using the lasso or the magic wand, but be careful using the wand u have to be careful.

then i create another layer for higlites and set the blending option to screen.

thats it..note me with ne questions.

azeto In reply to hamzapecenkovic [2004-01-04 11:37:15 +0000 UTC]

much obliged. i do more or less the same thing - a layer for the skin, clothing etc. i, however, set all of these layers to multiply. the original stays on bottom, and right above a " shadow" layer in which i shade the entire picture. for this particular one i used just gray, but i am deliberating whether or not i should have used a blue or brown or whatever instead of gray. i'm thinking i should attack it like painting, but my painting skills are not that developed either, unfortunately. regardless, many thanks for your input.

I really like this on the whole, but it has a somewhat "grainy" feel to it. I'm not an artist myself, so I can't say much more than that on the critique end. But otherwise it rules

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

azeto In reply to narishma [2004-01-04 08:39:17 +0000 UTC]

yea, i'm not sure about the graininess, i'm having trouble making it look super clean and professional. i also think it is pretty smudgetastic but i've got some constructive criticism and i'm looking to improve.
