It's a beautifully colored tulip, even with half of it's petals missing

I think that it is a photochemical reaction to the sunlight like grass when it grows. Besides if they did have brains and we pick them we would be killing an intelligent being. but having seen the insides of a flower there is no place for a brain to exist in them.
