not that this isn't adorable, but why the cape?
also baby groot (at least, as last seen at the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy, dancing to MJ) was more vine-like in proportions, especially around his head, so it kinda looked like hair. even as a grown up, he wasn't this...solid, i guess?
