There are some pan people who ID as either gay or straight and they are 100% valid.

A lot of places are LGBTphobic so it's easier/safer to ID as straight (be in the proverbial closet).
A lot of people are more panphobic than they are homophobic, even some ""allies"" or even other LGBT people are panphobic.
Some pan people are more attracted to one gender than the other, or just would prefer to be with that one so they ID as gay or straight.

And the """"""""jokes""""""""" about pansexuals being attracted to pans is offensive, because it's so fucking unfunny and cringy. Seriously, that """"""""joke""""""""" is as old as time.
