Description
Map depicting the Empire of the Huasteca, a short-lived unrecognized state established by rebel leader Julián Villagrán in 1812, during the Mexican War of Independence.
The map shows the state of the "empire" during its height in April 1813 shortly before Villagrán and his rebel army were defeated by the Spaniards. The territories held by the Zitacuaro Junta, the main Mexican rebel army at the time are also shown, as well as the major provinces and fiefdoms of central New Spain, where the Villagran guerrilla operated.
