HHhnnngh...those golden shadow missions were always a pain.
Especially when your best chances of finding (and defeating) one involved the risk of the Reaper coming if you took too long-

Also, Friday the 13th, lol. Last of the decade, folks-

Sadly, us completionists who want to finish all of Elizabeth's requests have to deal with this ✊😔

These Golden Shadows remind me of the trollery that Luigi's Mansion throws at the player, in the form of the Gold Mice and Gold Ghosts I recall the playthrough my youngest brother did years back (with the original game) and I remember the fury he got trying to catch those things). Though looking into this it looks like Luigi actually gets it "easier" in this instance....As he only has to deal with 'losing out on money (that increases your score/rank at the end of the game)' for failing to catch the Golden Trolls, while HERE it seems the price of failing is a LOT more worrisome (and not just simply annoying/frustrating)... You've gotta watch your back now...Cuz you don't (or maybe you DO) know what could be lurking not too far away...

Also just the frustration of an enemy being able to flee, I can relate to it in the form of Wild Pokemon, dangit hearing the word "flee/fled/flees" just bring back all those moments! the game/s makes it obvious that SKILL isn't the ONLY thing necessary to succeed...You gotta hope for a bit of luck the BIGGEST troll of all as well!

That Boi's FACE just SUMS up the situation (of the aftermath) perfectly Buddy!

Pretty much any novelty that requires having you track it and chase it down is already frustrating in itself, really xD
Case in point being the white glittering rabbits in Super Mario 64 DS (idk if the original SM64 had those, though?) and then the elusive Starfy(?) in Super Princess Peach
Like, we know they're practically "optional" and not really required in the main game, but...the novelty :'D

Funny enough, the "Reaper" in Persona 3 is exactly like the ominously fear-inducing "something's stirring" message if you stay on a dungeon floor for too long in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon—in P3, staying in a floor for too long will end up having The Reaper spawning and chasing you down (it can even follow you up the ramps!). Granted, it's not "invincible/unavoidable" compared to the time limit punishment from PMD, but The Reaper is ridiculously high-leveled and your only good chance is if you have the "right" skill combos or you and your team are level 95+ at most
There are actually rare (random) events when a floor will be FULL of golden shadows (thus increasing your chances of catching one in case you fail) but it has the risk of The Reaper coming to get you quicker so jdfhkgk

Oh gosh THAT ominous and stress inducing message! I remember actually being curious as to WHAT that "Stirring" was (when I first played the games)....So I purposely 'sped up' time JUST to see what would "meet me" when the "Stirring" got to me...Needless to say not only was I disappointed (as you NEVER actually see nor know WHAT you were just confronted by though I believe I read somewhere that it was apparently "just Wind" that blows you out of the dungeon....Which is very underwhelming if that WERE the case) but also had anxiety instilled into me, that I would always feel a chill go down my spine WHENEVER that message would pop up. Heck BECAUSE of that dang message, I always have my lead Pokemon have the X-Ray Specs AND try and teach them the Super Mobile IQ skill as SOON as possible. (So I can navigate the floor/dungeon better AND break through walls if time is of the essence.

The closest thing I can think of that matches the "Reaper" for the Mystery Dungeon series, is when you happen to be confronted by a Monster House when you're ridiculously underleveled in the games. Especially since I always found myself being chased by any of the Pokemon in the Monster House, that I tried to flee from. This was mainly in Joyous Tower and Wish Cave DAMNIT I hated those places.... (It was ESPECIALLY frustrating when the said Pokemon had "Hits every enemy in the room" moves...(I lost SO many times in Magma Cavern, due to most of the Pokemon that confronted me in Monster Houses having Earthquake and me being a Pikachu, I didn't really stand MUCH of a chance... ) Then when the said Monster House HAPPENS to be in the room WITH the Stairs! )

Considering that the "Reaper" comes after you "faster" when Golden Shadows are involved...Makes me wonder if the "Reaper" is coming after you, because you're trying to 'steal' their gold? After all "Greed" is a "sin" (Even if the GAME is asking you to go after the Golden Shadows! )

Just the Troll tactics video games throw at players!

Yeah it's just...hhhhnnnnghh, I do not like it when suddenly time limit mechanics are brought into the game :'D If it's not already apparent with the "Hurry Up!" variations in every box-standard Super Mario levels, they always fill me with a sense of dread and the panicky will to find the stairs/exit and FAST

LOL, with sheer (bad) luck, you could even spawn just straight into a Monster House in the next floor x'D I know that's happened to me more times than I'd want.

What's creepy is that, similar to the "Something's stirring" message in PMD, The Reaper's appearance will be indicated by the navigator telling you stuff like "Death is approaching" or "I sense death" followed by the rattling of chains (the rattling getting louder meaning it's getting closer to you). You're either gonna have to find the stairs fast or hold on for dear life as you try to fight it dshkgjh
(However, I have yet to check if The Reaper will target anyone in your team or if it will chase only you specifically. Since you DO have the option to have everyone explore on their own (and fight encounters on their own).)

Yeah when you're already in a situation where you have to fight off enemies coming after you, a time limit is just adding extra (unneeded) anxiety.

Ah yes, I've had my fair share of those unlucky instances! Funnily (or unfunnily) enough my first ever Monster House (and 'official' KO since I was VERY cautious and paranoid when I first played the game that I somehow managed to avoid being KO'd up until that point) IN Magma Cavern which was already unlucky enough...(Due to being a Pikachu and having many Ground and Rock types to be cautious of) But then when I managed to get to the next floor thinking I was safe (which I was, if only for a floor) ONLY to find myself immediately confronted with a Monster House! To which a Rhydon used Earthquake (which I managed to survive) ONLY to have ANOTHER Enemy (I believe it was Golem) to use Earthquake also to finish me off.

I can certainly agree that the rattling chains is way more chilling, than the sound of wind...   It's bad enough that you KNOW something is after you, but they've gotta throw on those "it's getting closer and closer" hints at you too!

(Hopefully you don't intend to willingly seek the Reaper in the game in order to find that info out Buddy....

Speaking of allowing teammates explore on their own...I used to like sending my teammates out on their own, in order to gain EXP easier...But then the game threw in traps (particularly Pitfall Traps) and that ended my habit of sending my teammates off to explore on their own. If ANYTHING I'd have them 'wait here', so that they could still gain EXP, but not risk them walking on a trap to do so....Just so many Trolls moves in these games Buddy! )

Yeah it's just hhhHHHNNNngh-

The problem with it is the fact it's one of the required sidequests and while there's no deadline for it, you technically have to accept said quest(s) in order for those golden shadows to spawn the required items :')))
