Very poor excuse. Things like Cowboy Bebop, the X-men comic, and even Sonic Adventure 2 had one of the main characters dying. (Shadow's revival has nothing to do with this, SEGA brought him back because 'ooooh, we can't loose merchandising potential now can we?'.)
